A heritage centre (or heritage center) is a museum facility primarily dedicated to the presentation of historical and cultural information about a place and its people, including, to some degree, natural features. Heritage centres typically differ from most traditional museums in usually featuring a high proportion of "hands-on" exhibits and live or lifelike specimens and practical artifacts.
The Western Heritage Center is a regional museum located in the Historic District in downtown Billings, Montana. This museum used to be the Parmly Billings Memorial Library. Built in 1901, the library turned museum houses a collection of artifacts about the history of the Yellowstone River Valley.
The Western Heritage Center is affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution and is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. The museum opened in 1971.
The museum is housed in the Parmly Billings Memorial Library building, a Richardsonian Romanesque building built in 1901 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The WHC's mission is to promote an appreciation of the history of the Northern High Plains by collecting, sharing, and preserving stories and artifacts of Yellowstone River Valley life.
In 2001, the WHC received the Montana Governor's Humanities Award, being only the second organization to receive the honor reserved for individual contributions to the Humanities. In 2002, the WHC became the first Smithsonian Institution affiliate museum in the Northern Plains. Beginning in 2004, and presently running through 2008, WHC received federal appropriations from the United States Department of the Interior for the American Indian Tribal Histories Project, a program contributing to the preservation of Crow and Northern Cheyenne tribal histories.
Western Heritage is a 1948 American Western directed by Wallace Grissell. The film is a Tim Holt B Western about land robbers and forgers in the southwest.
Although based on an original screenplay the film features Chito Rafferty from RKO's earlier Zane Grey series.
The film recorded a loss of $5,000.
Orvon Grover "Gene" Autry (September 29, 1907 – October 2, 1998) was an American performer who gained fame as a singing cowboy on the radio, in movies, and on television for more than three decades beginning in the early 1930s. Autry was also owner of a television station, several radio stations in Southern California, and the Los Angeles/California/Anaheim Angels Major League Baseball team from 1961 to 1997.
From 1934 to 1953, Autry appeared in 93 films and 91 episodes of The Gene Autry Show television series. During the 1930s and 1940s, he personified the straight-shooting hero—honest, brave, and true—and profoundly touched the lives of millions of Americans. Autry was also one of the most important figures in the history of country music, considered the second major influential artist of the genre's development after Jimmie Rodgers. His singing cowboy movies were the first vehicle to carry country music to a national audience. In addition to his signature song, "Back in the Saddle Again", Autry is still remembered for his Christmas holiday songs, "Here Comes Santa Claus", which he wrote, "Frosty the Snowman", and his biggest hit, "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer".
The Western United States, commonly referred to as the American West or simply the West, traditionally refers to the region comprising the westernmost states of the United States. Because European settlement in the U.S. expanded westward after its founding, the meaning of the West has evolved over time. Prior to about 1800, the crest of the Appalachian Mountains was seen as the western frontier.
Since then, the frontier generally moved westward and eventually lands west of the Mississippi River came to be referred to as the West. Though no consensus exists, even among experts, for the definition of the West as a region, this article adopts the U.S. Census Bureau's definition of the 13 westernmost states which include the Rocky Mountains and the Great Basin to the West Coast, and the outlying states of Hawaii and Alaska.
The West contains several major biomes. It is known for arid to semi-arid plateaus and plains, particularly in the American Southwest - forested mountains, including the major ranges of the American Sierra Nevada and Rocky Mountains - the massive coastal shoreline of the American Pacific Coast - and the temperate rainforests of the Pacific Northwest.

This video was shot at the Western Heritage Center, a small museum located on the fairgrounds in Monroe, WA that preserves the history of the area's industries, such as agriculture, mining, logging, and railroading. For this video, my camera was set on a G scale flat car and taken for a train ride around the museum's G gauge track. The museum also has an elevated HO loop (shown in the video), as well as two small HO layouts at floor level. The Western Heritage Center is a living history museum, so a lot of the equipment there is still operable. A hay press and a line-shaft system can be seen operating in this video, and an air powered whistle can be heard. Come check it out sometime!

The American West Heritage Center, located in Wellsville, Utah, is a remarkable living history experience. The original Jensen family farm is mainly intact, including a working antique tractor. This western working farm that sits on hundreds of acres has untouched vistas that easily take you back 150 years.
Gene Autry Western Heritage Museum Art of the West showcases the dynamic and evolving world of art that springs from the cultural practices of some of the many peoples who have shaped the American West. This exhibition is the first of its kind to explore how shared values and interests have inspired artists from different cultures and times to create distinctive, powerful works that speak to their experience of the West as both a destination and a home. The Gene Autry Western Heritage Museum isn't just about Gene Autry. Far from it. In fact, Gene was surprisingly modest, given the circumstances; only a tiny portion of the museum was dedicated to his own career. And the museum isn't just about Hollywood cowboys. The Gene Autry Western Heritage Museum is also devoted to the history of real O...

The Western United States has been populated by Native Americans since at least 11,000 BC, when the first Paleo-Indians arrived. Pre-Columbian trade routes to kingdoms and empires such as the Mound Builders existed in places such as Yellowstone National Park since around 1000 AD. Major settlement of the western territories developed rapidly in the 1840s, largely through the Oregon Trail and the California Gold Rush of 1849. California experienced such a rapid growth in a few short months that it was admitted to statehood in 1850 without the normal transitory phase of becoming an official territory.[10] One of the largest migrations in American history occurred in the 1840s as the Latter Day Saints left the Midwest to build a theocracy in Utah. Both Omaha, Nebraska and St. Louis, Missouri...

The unbroken Chinese ink painting tradition that has been perfected over the course of more than a millennium of history continues its evolution into the present day, as evidenced by the current popularity of contemporary ink. As Chinese contemporary art has gained prominence over the past couple of decades, there has been a dichotomy between purely contemporary works and works with a stronger connection to tradition. This division seems to be shrinking as traditional aesthetics begins to merge with newer media in more harmonious ways. The collaborative work of Arnold Chang and Michael Cherney is a particularly vivid example of this phenomenon. Both Chang and Cherney are hybrid artists. Chang is of Chinese and Western heritage; his strong foundation in traditional ink painting is balanced...

I think I finally found a California
state of mind and it feels fine
been facing west now for so long
and a million surfers can't be wrong
Chorus
California please let me stay
California don't go away
Think there's only one way to describe it
and I'm digging these vibrations
I said its electric
and its turning me on
Chorus
California please let me stay
California don't go away
And Oklahoma's really not that far
but it feels like worlds apart
and sometimes, sometimes you need that coast
I said sometimes, sometimes oh you need that coast
oh you need it so close
I think I'm finally ready to surf those waves
cause its the only thing in between endless harmony
Chorus
California please let me stay
California don't go away
California please let me stay
