China Human Rights 2012 - Amnesty International
China Human Rights 2012 - Amnesty International
On Thursday, Amnesty International released its 2012 annual report. It says that in 2011, the human rights situation deteriorated in China with more onslaughts of persecution across the Mainland... making it arguably one of the worst years since the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests. The report focused on violations of freedom of speech, the persecution of activists and illegal land grabs and demolitions. It also referenced human rights violations in Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang and Tibet. It says this year was especially bad due to the Arab Spring movement in the Middle East and North Africa back in February. The Chinese Communist Party, or CCP, was fearful that those protests would spread to China and challenge its rule. Harassment, intimidation, arbitrary and illegal detention, and enforced disappearances towards dissent intensified. In the report, Amnesty says that ethnic minority regions were under heightened security in China. The authorities increased ongoing efforts to bring all religious practices under state control... including harsh persecution of individual religious practitioners. One of the persecuted groups mentioned was the Falun Gong meditation practice, which has been targeted for elimination by the CCP since 1999. The report referenced a transformation campaign by Chinese authorities, aimed at making Falun Gong practitioners give up their faith through brainwashing, as well as mental and physical torture. It detailed the story of Falun Gong practitioner Wang ...

"Tiananmen Square" and "Zhao Ziyang" No Longer Censored on China's Internet?
For more news and videos visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ on.fb.me The Chinese Communist Party is soon holding its 18th National Congress. Many sensitive words such as "Zhao Ziyang" and "June Fourth," which have long been censored by China's firewall, are suddenly yielding results. Many Chinese Internet users say this is not a sign that the regime is lifting the taboo on those keywords, but rather indicates a high-level power struggle within the Chinese Communist Party. Content: On Tuesday morning, many Chinese netizens discovered that the search term "Zhao Ziyang" appears in Baidu Encyclopedia, a web-based Chinese encyclopedia. Baidu Encyclopedia, together with the Baidu search engine, is heavily self-censored. But now, when the politically sensitive search terms "Zhao Ziyang" or "June Fourth" are entered into Baidu search engine, more than one million results show up. Zhao Ziyang served as the Premier of People's Republic of China from 1980 to 1987, and the General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee from 1987 to 1989. He is most known in the West for his supportive stance towards the student democracy movement. In 1989, he spoke to students at Tiananmen Square just before the massacre. That would be his last public appearance, as he spent the rest of his life under house arrest. In China, the Tiananmen Square massacre is known as the "June Fourth" incident, and mention of it is taboo. On Tuesday night ...

For more news and videos visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ me.lt As we've been telling you this week, tens of thousands of villagers are protesting in Wukan, in Guangdong Province. Now the situation has become a standoff as villagers have kicked out both local officials and police. That came after the suspicious death of one villager in police custody. Here's the latest. The over twenty-thousand residents of the village of Wukan in south China's Guangdong Province have expelled all local Communist Party authorities, including police, and blocked road access to the village. The British newspaper The Telegraph was able to get a journalist on the ground in Wukan on Tuesday. Malcom Moore called the current incident the first time on record that the Party has "lost all control" in a situation of "open revolt." This marks the latest escalation in an ongoing confrontation between villagers and local Communist Party officials they've called corrupt and abusive. For three months, Wukan residents have been staging occasional large-scale protests against a longstanding series of abuses committed by local Party officials. The villagers' biggest grievance was corrupt officials profiting from illegally selling the villagers' land. The current intensified protest, including the expelling of all police and officials, came after the death in Party custody of Xue Jinbo. He was a Wukan resident who had served as a negotiator with authorities ...

Exposure of Chinese Internet Troops
Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com Chinese Communist Party (CCP) defense department acknowledged having internet troops for the first time. This grabbed overseas media attention, as the West has long accused CCP of hacking others' secret files. Experts on Chinese politics said, a military-controlled Internet force was designed for CCP's secret moves. CCP military announced a synchronized practice in late April with a new "online blue army" launching a "virus attack" on four "online red armies". The news were widely reported by overseas media. China's "50 Cent Army" are netizens hired by CCP as Internet critics. They are from all walks of life. What are the unique features of this new online army? Jing Chu (Internet writer and dissident): The CCP military is a more enclosed system, with military disciplines and regulations. The army is more easily controlled and manipulated. If CCP intends to commit crimes in secret, its troops are more handy and confidential. CCP Defense Department emphasized that their Internet troops were not online hackers. However, as per Wikileaks, a secret cable of the US State Department in Apr 2009 revealed that, in 2006, several of its secret files were stolen by hackers. Its investigation traced back to a website registered by No. 1 Technical Scout Bureau in Chengdu Military, which was one of CCP's military intelligence units. Relatives of Chinese activist Li Wangyang, found dead in a hospital earlier this week, say his body has been cremated, against their will. They question official accounts that he committed suicide. The announcement follows controversy over another high-profile Chinese dissident, Chen Guangchen, who managed to leave the country last month after a dramatic escape from house arrest. While Chen is now free, his nephew is still in detention and the crackdown on those fighting for more rights continues. Al Jazeera's Steve Chao reports from Hong Kong.

A big hurrah to you!!!!! We've won for now -- SOPA and PIPA were dropped by Congress today -- the votes we've been scrambling to mobilize against have been cancelled. The largest online protest in history has fundamentally changed the game. You were heard. On January 18th, 13 million of us took the time to tell Congress to protect free speech rights on the internet. Hundreds of millions, maybe a billion, people all around the world saw what we did on Wednesday. See the amazing numbers here and tell everyone what you did. This was unprecedented. Your activism may have changed the way people fight for the public interest and basic rights forever. The MPAA (the lobby for big movie studios which created these terrible bills) was shocked and seemingly humbled. "'This was a whole new different game all of a sudden,' MPAA Chairman and former Senator Chris Dodd told the New York Times. '[PIPA and SOPA were] considered by many to be a slam dunk.'" "'This is altogether a new effect,' Mr. Dodd said, comparing the online movement to the Arab Spring. He could not remember seeing 'an effort that was moving with this degree of support change this dramatically' in the last four decades, he ...

Google: Gatekeeper King of The Internet
The relationship between the National Security Agency (NSA) and Google is not going to be disclosed. A US Court of Appeals in the District of Columbia, ruled last week that the NSA does not need to confirm nor deny (known as a "Glomar" response) its collaborations with Google; how the two work together to spy on American citizens in the name of protecting the public from false flag "cyber-attacks". The court's ruling states effectively that regardless of a filing by the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) with the Freedom of Information Act to obtain documents as to the relationship, the US government does not have to divulge any arrangement between the NSA and the search engine giant. This request by EPIC was spurned after a cyber-attack on Chinese human rights activists was conducted through their Gmail accounts. EPIC v. NSA is the name of the court case. Google complained that the Chinese government had instigated the attacks on their own people. Then Google was found to be teaming up with the NSA to collect data on users and analyze the cyber-attack under the guise of preventing another in the future. David Drummond, Google's chief legal officer, stated that Google was notifying corporations that may have been targets and working with US federal authorities. "The existence of a relationship or communications between the NSA and any private company certainly constitutes an 'activity' of the agency subject to protection" from public disclosure, said Judge ...

Obama Signs Global Internet Treaty Worse Than SOPA 2/2
White House bypasses Senate to ink agreement that could allow Chinese companies to demand ISPs remove web content in US with no legal oversight Paul Joseph Watson www.prisonplanet.com www.infowars.com www.prisonplanet.tv Thursday, January 26, 2012 Months before the debate about Internet censorship raged as SOPA and PIPA dominated the concerns of web users, President Obama signed an international treaty that would allow companies in China or any other country in the world to demand ISPs remove web content in the US with no legal oversight whatsoever. The Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement was signed by Obama on October 1 2011, yet is currently the subject of a White House petition demanding Senators be forced to ratify the treaty. The White House has circumvented the necessity to have the treaty confirmed by lawmakers by presenting it an as "executive agreement," although legal scholars have highlighted the dubious nature of this characterization. The hacktivist group Anonymous attacked and took offline the Federal Trade Commission's website yesterday in protest against the treaty, which was also the subject of demonstrations across major cities in Poland, a country set to sign the agreement today. Under the provisions of ACTA, copyright holders will be granted sweeping direct powers to demand ISPs remove material from the Internet on a whim. Whereas ISPs normally are only forced to remove content after a court order, all legal oversight will be abolished, a precedent ...

Chinese Guzheng Girl Shows Her Pretty Face Finally!
Chinese Guzheng Girl Shows Her Pretty Face Finally!
This is the girl who has not shown her face in the original video - Rolling in the Deep(Chinese Guzheng/zither cover). She is Xu Hewei, a third year law school student at China's Jilin University. In a most recent interview by a Chinese newspaper, she revealed that she really loves music, and has started playing zither as a hobby since her 3rd grade. She started with piano lessons, but her tiger mom just picked a zither for her, hoping to train her "temperament'(to be a sweet girl & not a tomboy). There have been so many cover versions for Adele's Rolling in the Deep over the Internet, and yet there is none by the Chinese zither. One of her friends suggested the idea of her doing a cover for Adele's most popular single. The cover version released on the Internet is completed and finalized on her 3rd trial after she's listened to the original song and came to get the feel of the melody. It's reported that this is not the first time she could come up with a cover like that. By the way, she's doing a cover for a typical traditional Chinese song in this clip,.

China Internet Addiction
China Internet Addiction
China has cemented its position as the world's largest Internet population, with the number of Internet users reaching a staggering 300 million at the end of 2008, according to the China Internet Network Information Centre. But there is a downside. At a newly created Internet addiction treatment centre, Cheng Jiawei had to finish one last exercise of arranging toy figurines in a sandpit, a way her doctors could understand how her mind worked. Once spending 15 hours a day in Internet cafes, Cheng' arrangements toned down after two and a half months at China's largest Internet addiction treatment centre. [Cheng Wei, Patient]: "When I played video games, I believed that I was one character in the games. I made 'friends' playing video games that I couldn't make in real life." Cheng's family spent 3700 dollars on the treatment, while some 60 children are in the treatment centre. Tao Ran founded China's biggest Internet addiction treatment centre, and is now looking for additional space as more people knock on the door for help. [Tao Ran, Director]: "There are more than 200 organisations offering treatment for internet addiction in China now. If it weren't for the fast increase in the number of these hospitals, we would have many more people coming here for help." The treatment does not come cheap - each patient pays about 1500 dollars (USD) a month, sometimes staying for up to three months. Many are referred to psychotic hospitals for various medical conditions, including ...

The so-called "National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace," created by NIST under the auspices of the US Commerce Department, purports to offer an "identity ecosystem" under which Americans will be able to protect their information not with passwords but with a "single credential" stored on a smart card, a cell phone, a keychain fob or some other kind of gadget. This will then be used to access a myriad of data, including tax returns, health information, bank accounts and more, amounting to a passport for your entire life. Companies like Siemens developed credit card-sized gadgets years ago that enable fingerprints to be used to approve online transactions and the technology is already well established. Reporters Without Borders Chair Christian Rickerts said, "The interferences coincide with China's recent continuous and systematic Internet filtering policies." Online author Qi Tianzhuang told Voice of America that many of his articles were removed recently. CCP's sensitivity to online comments indicates that they are not confident about their rule. Magnotta has a sprawling internet presence. (Montreal Police) Berlin police spokesman Chief-Supt. Magnotta is being held at the Berlin prison and is expected to be brought before a judge on Tuesday. Magnotta, dubbed the "Butcher of Montreal" by European media, was spotted in Paris on the weekend, at a local café and in a hotel.
