Hu Yaobang was the former General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party. Hu Yaobang died from sudden cardiac arrest on April 15th, 1989. Beijing students held an activity to commemorate him, and called for reform. This eventually led to the Tiananmen Square democracy movement of 1989. Three years earlier, a series of widespread student protests started in December 1986, demanding "democratic elections and anti-corruption". The event triggered Hu's eventual resignation. Magazine Yanhuang Chunqiu published a 6000-word article authored by Hu Yaobang's political secretary, Liu Chongwen. The article, "Hu Yaobang's Last Days," revealed some details of Hu's life before his death. Liu Chongwen wrote, "Hu Yaobang was very depressed and hoped the central leadership could correctly assess the 'student protest'. He believes that the democratic wave is a world trend, and no one can stop it." Ruan Ming, one of Hu Yaobang's closest allies, says that China should choose to take the path of democracy. [Ruan Ming]: "Only Deng Xiaoping himself opposed democracy. Democracy is outside the CCP system, how can it exist within the CCP system? To be exact, democracy allows for demonstration, the freedom to express opposition and the freedom of speech. All these are blocked off inside (the CCP ...

Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com Bo Xilai's removal from duty was reported by the official media of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) on March 15. Xinhua News Agency's report marked the fall of Bo, an important CCP princeling and a core figure of Jiang's clique. Meanwhile, the public appeal in China keeps growing for a review of the unjust convictions officially created by Bo and Wang's administration over the past few years. NTD conducted an interview with a member of Hu Yaobang's (a former CCP General Secretary) think-tank, former CCP General Secretary, to look at the issue in depth. Early in February, Wang Lijun's defection was deemed a crucial element in the torpedoing of Bo Xilai's political career path. The two have both been removed from duties. Yet the CCP authorities have not affirmed whether or not they shall continue to recognize Bo's title of Central politburo member. Ruan Ming, speaking for ex-CCP leader Hu Yaobang, says that Bo is waiting to "go through the process". Bo's title of Central politburo member now exists in name only. Ruan Ming says: "Politburo members took the seat through so called election, currently, he got nothing to do with the title. After Bo's official position in Chongqing was removed, his title of Politburo member became nominal. Politburo members are elected by the (CCP) Central Committee. So it's impossible for him to be elected to the 18th Congress, and nobody will vote for him." Ruan Ming has ...

Tiananmen Anniversary - China
Tiananmen Anniversary - China
May 2009 On 4th June 1989, tanks rolled into Tiananmen Square. They were told to clear the demonstrators at any cost - and they did. Zheng Fang lost his legs in the brutal reprisal - 20 years later he tells his story. When Chinese pro-democracy official Hu Yaobang died, the nation wanted to mourn him. We requested permission to take part in the memorial ceremonies but our request was denied, explains Zheng Fang. Thousands believed the government was acting irrationally and in retaliation descended upon Tiananmen Square. Students and intellectuals swarmed to the memorial camps, which had evolved into a larger calling for democracy and the resignation of Premier Li Peng. There was a lot of passion amongst us students but we were also very naïve. After 7 weeks of protests the army was ordered to clear the Square. The tanks moved in on us from behind. They must have seen that we were leaving peacefully. So why did they plough into us at high speed? Zheng was knocked unconscious. When I woke up, I found I had lost my legs. Twenty years on and the number of those injured and killed is still unknown. With the Chinese press not even allowed to mention the event, Zheng, who has now applied for political asylum in America, is determined not to let it be forgotten. The important thing is that the truth is preserved. I do not want this to gradually slip from the Chinese collective memory.

An advisor to former Chinese leader Hu Yaobang, tells NTD why he thinks Bo will lose his position on the Politburo at the end of this year. Disgraced Communist Party official Bo Xilai has been relieved of his posts in Chongqing after a scandal in which his deputy mayor fled to the US Consulate. However, Bo is still a member of the Central Politburo—a 24-member committee of high-level Communist Party leaders. But Ruan Ming, an advisor to former Chairman Hu Yaobang, says even this position now seems to be a formality. [Ruan Ming, Former Advisor to Hu Yaobang]: "The Politburo members are elected (by the Party), but now he has nothing to do with the title. His actual work was in Chongqing. After he lost his job there, 'Politburo member' just became an empty title. Politburo members are chosen by the Central Politburo Standing Committee. At the 18th Party Congress he will not be chosen again, who would vote for him?" Ruan Ming says that Bo's downfall is unraveling a net of crimes that are connected with Zhou Yongkang—the Director of the CCP Central Committee's Public Security Commission and part of Jiang Zemin's faction of hardliners. Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com April 15 is the date on which to commemorate Hu Yaobang, who was a former Chinese Communist Party secretary. The CCP's media has informed us that the next issue of Qiushi magazine will publish Wen Jiaobao's article. The current political atmosphere in Beijing is extremely tense, Hu's commemoration date is sensitive, so Wen's article is arousing the public's attention. Scholars have pointed out that Wen's article has the intention of commemorating Hu. Meanwhile, it also hints on Zhou Yongkang. On April 16, the latest CCP's magazine Qiushi published Premier Wen Jiabao's article, the title is "Let the Power Run in the Sun (In an Aboveboard Way)". This article was reproduced according to the content of Wen's speech on March 26. This article emphasized the importance of anti corruption, requiring it to be implemented in a practical way. Wen said that a government must serve the people and that to satisfy them, it must be efficient and free from corruption." Wen has urged the improvement of administrative transparency, "The open and the operation of power in an aboveboard way, is an effective way of fighting corruption." Sun Wenguang, former Prof. of Shandong University believes that Wen's article has the purpose of commemorating Hu Yaobang. it also relates, however, to the current situation. Truth About Jiang Zemin: Part V
Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com Today's topic is Jiang's suppression of student movements. At the beginning of the democratic movement of 1989, only students were involved. Its turning point from a student movement to a mass movement is the then-CCP secretary in Shanghai Jiang Zemins purge of "World Economic Herald". Jiang's purge of the paper, as well as the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) mouthpiece "People's Daily" defining the student movement as "unrest", became the fuse for the CCP's massacre of Chinese citizens. Jiang was praised for the bloodshed by several big shots within the CCP. As a result, Jiang used the lives of Tiananmen Massacre victims as a stepping stone to become the CCP's leader. Zhang Weiguo, ex-director of World Economic Herald, said that the newspaper was the only private newspaper in China at that time. It is also the first and most active newspaper in China to advocate political reforms and democratic ideals. On April 15, 1989, CCP's General Secretary Hu Yaobang suddenly died, leading to a student movement in Beijing. Hu used to sympathize with the student movement. As a result, he was accused by the CCP conservatives to be ineffective in the CCP's anti-liberalization efforts. In 1987, he was forced to resign. Zhang Weiguo (ex-director of World Economic Herald): Herald held a forum in memory of Hu Yaobang in Beijing. Nanjing Massacre was created by Chinese Nationalist Party, KMT, along with US for the International Military Tribunal for the Far East. This forged story was reborn in '80s and fostered in '90s by CCP. After the cultural revolution, 80's was the period of various factions within CCP especially between reformer's group like Hu yaobang(胡耀邦) and conservative power like Li Peng(李鵬) and Jiang Zemin(江沢民). This conflict grew up to anti-Hu Yaobang movement. He was well known as a pro-Japan (pro-Democracy) statesman. "Nanjing Massacre" was the propaganda used by the conservative dogmatists of CCP as anti-Hu Yaobang = anti-Japan (= anti-Democracy) movement. In fact, "Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall" was not built until in 1985. In addition, no country including China had blamed Japanese prime-minister's visit to pay homage to the war dead at Yasukuni Shrine until this same year. Ex-PM Nakasone (中曽根) confessed later that he could not help but consider the political position of Hu yaobang (胡耀邦) in CCP and suspend his visit at Yasukuni. After the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989, Jiang Zemin (江沢民) strengthened patriotic education ( = anti-Japan education) for their young people in '90s. The atmosphere in Beijing is very tense these days, with some districts implementing martial law. Outside analysts point out that Lai's case provides a key to the criminal evidence of Jiang's camp. Hu Jintao seems to intend to split Jiang's faction. On the day of Lai Changxing's repatriation, CCP Central Military Commission Chairman Hu Jintao promoted six generals. One of the six was Jia Ting'an. He is Deputy Director of the General Political Department and Vice Chair of Yuan Hua Case investigation team. On 15 April 1989 Hu Yaobang, the former General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, died of a heart attack. This became the start signal for one of the biggest mass movements in modern history, a movement that soon grew beyond the wildest expectations of its initiators and came close to toppling the dictatorial regime of the so-called communist party. On 17 April the first contingents, around 700 students and teachers, marched 15 kilometers from their university campus into Tiananmen Square at the heart of the Chinese capital. They chanted, Long Live Hu Yaobang! Long live democracy! Down with corruption! Down with autocracy! In the ensuing weeks these slogans would echo around the world. www.chinaworker.info

However, CCTV, recently claimed that mouse clicks have destabilized and endangered national security. As the mouth piece of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), CCTV repeatedly touted to fight with online rumor makers. Yet pro-democracy activists hold different views. On 8th April, a CCTV program, "Fight Decisively With Internet Rumor-Makers", claimed: "A mere mouse click has let someone defame others reputations, ruin the stability, and even threaten national security." Hu Jun, sponsor of a Human Rights Campaign in China, wonders if hundreds of millions of Chinese people have used their mouse being unaware that it has such a destructive impact. Hu Jun thus called on the CCP prosecuting departments to conduct an investigation. Hu Jun: "The mouse is defined as such a threatening and destructive weapon, but Chinese people even aren't aware of this. Can this claim be deemed as a rumor then? I think the official should clarify this issue. It's better for public security authorities to make a formal investigation into the mouse. If it doesn't have such a huge destructive impact, isn't CCTV's mouse-threatening claim creating a terror atmosphere? This causes instability in China and the CCTV should be liable for this." China 2009 Video 5
This is a video I took of Tiananmen Square in Beijing, China. Tiananmen Square is probably best known for the 1989 protests. The protests were sparked by the death of a pro-market, pro-democracy, and anti-corruption official, Hu Yaobang, whom protesters wanted to mourn. By the eve of Hu's funeral, 1000000 people had gathered on the Tiananmen square. The protests lacked a unified cause or leadership, participants included disillusioned Communist Party members and Trotskyists as well as free market reformers, who were generally against the government's authoritarianism and voiced calls for economic changeand democratic reform within the structure of the government. The demonstrations centered on Tiananmen Square, in Beijing, but large-scale protests also occurred in cities throughout China, including Shanghai, which remained peaceful throughout the protests. The movement lasted seven weeks, from Hu's death on 15 April until tanks cleared Tiananmen Square on 4 June. In Beijing, the resulting military response to the protesters by the PRC government left many civilians dead or severely injured. The number of deaths is not known and many different estimates exist. Following the violence, the government conducted widespread arrests of protesters and their supporters, cracked down on other protests around China, banned the foreign press from the country and strictly controlled coverage of the events in the PRC press. Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com 'Bo and Wang incident' has brought repercussions in the political situation of the 18th National People's Congress. How to deal with Bo Xilai has become the focus of power contention from different CCP factions. 'People's Daily' published articles, pushing Hu and Wen to resolve the event before the next leadership. On Feb 18, CCTV news reported foreign language versions of "Selected Works of Jiang Zemin" have been published. This signalled that Jiang Zemin is trying hard to intervene in the political situation in the 18th National People's Congress. "Wang Lijun case" has exposed inside stories about how Bo Xilai has been fighting for political power. The CCP already reached a consensus to penalize Bo Xilai. However, how to penalize him has become a 'hot potato'. "People's Daily" published an article on Feb 17th. It says the current leadership is playing games by not resolving problems now, but trying to delay them to the next leadership. Some political analysts think that the article is a warning from the next CCP leadership. It meant to warn the Hu and Wen leadership not to bring the issue of Bo Xilai to Xi Jinping. Meanwhile, CCTV broke rules of reporting news by reporting six-year old news as a headline. The news referred to the publishing of English version of 'Selected works of Jiang Zeming'.
