Digital Radio Problems for NZ Police
Digital Radio Problems for NZ Police
The New Zealand Police have begun there move away from there current analogue radio channels and radios to a new Tait manufactured P-25 encrypted network that is near impossible to scan even with new P-25 capable scanners. There has been a few teething with the new system that has been launched in the Wellington Region to take over the Wellington city and Hutt channels. At the end of the month(August 09) the trial period for the $150 million new P-25 encrypted network will end and all communications will be on the new system full time. This trial period is so that officers and Tait can iron out the digital systems problems with coverage and linking with the trunked system. Problems with the network currently: *Coverage bad in concrete Buildings. *Cuts out in the Hills around the Wellington and Hutt areas. *Delays in transmitting from when the Talk button is pressed. Once the Network in Wellington has been fully fixed, it is likely that roll outs in Auckland and Christchurch in 2010 will be on time and only have limited faults. See the earlier video about the Digital System by 3news here: www.youtube.com Tech stuff The radio network is an American developed standard called Apco Project 25 (P-25) Digital system. The P-25 standard is used mainly in North and South America, parts of Asia and Australia and now New Zealand for digital radio. P-25 can be used with or without Encryption. Only non Encrypted P-25 can be scanned with a P-25 capable scanner. Europe mainly uses a ...

Digital Radio Scan - Melbourne, Australia (Sangean DPR-69 DAB+)
Clip 2 of 3 This is a scan of DAB+ Digital Radio in Melbourne, Australia, showing the scrolling text on each station (where provided). Audio is Stereo via the Headphone Output into the Camera. This scan shows Mix101.1, Nova 100, NovaNation, PAC STAR, Pink Radio, Radar Radio, SEN & SEN-2 Mix 101.1 has a fair bit to say in text! There was no ABC or SBS radio at the time. There is also no Community Radio on DAB+ as yet UPDATE: The PAC STAR station has since gone - I think it was a test transmission from SEN or 3MP (Because the company running them is "Pacific Star"). The channel while on air was playing music simular to what you would hear on MIX - anyone got any info? Since this video was taken, more text has appeared on almost all DAB+ stations. ABC & SBS radio is now on air in Digital (as of 1/7/09) - I will do a scan of these stations soon!

Deutsche Welle Digital Radio Mondiale promotional video
Deutsche Welle Digital Radio Mondiale promotional video
Here is a Deutsche Welle Digital Radio Mondiale video promoting the Digital Radio Mondiale AM radio system which gives near FM quality radio transmissions in mono and stereo quality via the MW/LW/SW bands over large AM distances at the lowest possible cost(in the event of shortwave this can be transcontinental/international or europewide or targeting specific areas and in the case of mediumwave and longwave can target a whole country or continent) in better quality and reception than outmoded analogue AM on these wavebands and has these advantages; An immediate improvement in quality and reception over analogue AM, Ease of use, You find stations by name not frequency, There is also the facility for the radio to change frequencies if a station changes over frequencies and/or wavebands during the broadcast(saving the trouble of having to retune;the radio does this all for you and you hardly know about it), and as well as information about the programme/music etc being broadcast, multimedia images and text accompanying the programmes can be received(if sent by the broadcasters).

Quick View: NW7US Amateur Radio JT65A Weak-Signal Digital Radio
A very quick look at the NW7US amateur radio station where Tomas (NW7US) is using the JT65-HF software to decode the JT65A weak-signal digital shortwave communications mode of stations from around the world. This is a quick view occurring on the evening of 15 August, 2011. The radio is an Icom IC-7000 transceiver, and the antenna is a Hustler vertical with the 20-meter resonator, mounted on the apartment balcony, on the second floor of the building. More videos on this mode of communication will be posted, which will instruct how to set up the software, and how to carry on a two-way communication with another station, using the JT65-HF software. This video is just a quick glimpse. Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) energizes and opens up new possibilities for radio
Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) energizes and opens up new possibilities for radio
Digital Radio MondialeTM (DRM) provides digital sound quality and the ease-of-use that comes from digital radio, combined with a wealth of enhanced features: Surround Sound, Journaline text information, Slideshow, EPG, data services and now Diveemo. Diveemo is a new small-scale video application for DRM. DRM on short, medium and long wave for broadcasting bands up to 30 MHz (called 'DRM30') provides large coverage areas and low power consumption. The enhancement of the DRM standard for broadcast frequencies above 30 MHz ('DRM+') uses the same audio coding, data services, multiplexing and signaling schemes as DRM30 but introduces an additional transmission mode optimized for those bands.
