LISTEN-BEYONCE COVER
LISTEN-BEYONCE COVER
"Listen" is a song recorded by American singer Beyoncé Knowles. The song was written by Henry Krieger, Scott Cutler, Anne Preven, and Knowles, and produced by The Underdogs Matt Sullivan and Randy Spendlove for the soundtrack album Dreamgirls: Music from the Motion Picture to the 2006 musical film Dreamgirls, in which Knowles' character Deena Jones sings the song to assert independence over her controlling husband. Columbia Records released "Listen" as the lead single from soundtrack album on December 5, 2006. It additionally appeared as a hidden track on international editions, and on the deluxe edition of Knowles' second solo studio album, B'Day. The Spanish version of the song, "Oye", was released on the EP, Irreemplazable, and the Spanish deluxe edition of B'Day. "Listen" is an R&B-soul song; its lyrics make reference to tenacity, love, the refusal to defer dreams and finally rise towards fame. Its instrumentation includes bass, drums, guitars, keyboards, percussion, and violins, among others. The song was a critical success. Contemporary music critics complimented the strong and emotional vocals of Knowles, and added that the lyrics perfectly elaborate on Deena Jones's life. "Listen" won Best Original Song at the 2007 Critics' Choice Awards. It was nominated in the same category at the 2006 International Press Academy Satellite Award, at the 2007 Golden Globe Awards, and at the 2007 Academy Awards.

Theme From 'Shaft' - Isaac Hayes (1971)
"Theme From 'Shaft'", written and recorded by Isaac Hayes in 1971, was the funk-styled theme song to the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film, "Shaft". The theme was released as a single two months after the movie's soundtrack by Stax Records' Enterprise label (at the time owned by Paramount Pictures, which later released the 2000 version of "Shaft"). "Theme From 'Shaft'" won the 1972 Academy Award for Best Original Song, with Hayes not only becoming the first African-American to win that honor (or any Oscar in a non-acting category) but also becoming the first recipient of the award to both write and perform the winning song. The song has appeared in numerous television shows, commercials, and other movies, including the 2000 remake of "Shaft" starring Samuel L. Jackson, for which Hayes re-recorded the song without making any changes to it. In 2000, Hayes told National Public Radio that he had only agreed to write and record the "Shaft" score after the producer, Joel Freeman, promised him an audition for the lead role. He never got the chance to audition, with the role eventually going to Richard Roundtree, but Hayes kept his end of the deal anyway. Director Gordon Parks also had some input, describing the character of John Shaft (the 'black private dick/who's a sex machine') to Hayes and explaining that the song had to familiarize the audience with him. Hayes recorded the rhythm parts on the theme first, scored the entire rest of the film, then returned to the theme song. It begins ...

Etta James - At Last - Original CD Version *RIP You will be missed*
Etta James was absolutely amazing. I have a hard time imagining a world without her. I chose to not have her image in this video because she fought a tough battle against leukemia, and I prefer to remember her healthy and changing the world with her voice. If you want to see a video of her performing, check out here: bit.ly I do not own any of the rights to this song January 20th 2012. Etta James, whose assertive, earthy voice lit up such hits as "The Wallflower," "Something's Got a Hold on Me" and the wedding favorite "At Last," died today. She died from complications from leukemia with her husband, Artis Mills, and her sons by her side. Etta James was 73. Oh, and please, leave the comments about this cover or that cover was better somewhere else. No one did it better in my opinion. Lyrics: At last my love has come along my lonely days are over and life is like a song Ooh, yeah, yeah At last the skies above are blue My heart was wrapped up in clover the night I looked at you I found a dream that I could speak to A dream that I can call my own I found a thrill to press my cheek to A thrill that I have never known Ohh, yeah, yeah You smile you smile Ooh and then the spell was cast And here we are in Heaven for you are mine at last News report from Yahoo: Etta James' performance of the enduring classic "At Last" was the embodiment of refined soul: Angelic-sounding strings harkened the arrival of her passionate yet measured vocals as she sang tenderly about a love finally ...

FAITH EVANS JUNE.12.1996 INTERVIEW
Faith Renée Evans (born June 10, 1973) is an American singer-songwriter, record producer, and actress. Born in Florida and raised in New Jersey, Evans relocated to Los Angeles during 1993 for a career in the music business. After working as a backing vocalist for Al B. Sure and Christopher Williams, she became the first female artist to be contracted with Sean "Puff Daddy" Combs' Bad Boy Entertainment recording company during 1994, for which she released three platinum-certified studio albums between the years 1995 and 2001. During 2003, she ended her relationship with the company to contract with Capitol Records. Other than her recording career, Evans is known as the widow of New York rapper Christopher "The Notorious BIG" Wallace, whom she married on August 4, 1994, a few weeks after meeting at a Bad Boy photoshoot. The turbulent marriage resulted in Evans' involvement in the East Coast-West Coast hip hop feud, dominating the rap music news at the time, and ended with Wallace's murder in a yet-unsolved drive-by shooting in Los Angeles, California during March 1997. A 1997 tribute single featuring Puff Daddy and the band 112, named "I'll Be Missing You", became Evans' best-selling song to date and won her a Grammy Award during 1998. Also an avocational actress and writer, Evans made her screen debut in the 2000 musical drama Turn It Up by Robert Adetuyi. Her autobiography Keep the Faith: A Memoir was released by Grand Central Publishing during 2008 and won a 2009 African ...

Al Green - "I'm Still In Love With You" (1972)
Albert Greene (born April 13, 1946), better known as Al Green, is an American gospel and soul music singer. He reached the peak of his popularity in the 1970s, with hit singles such as "You Oughta Be With Me," "I'm Still In Love With You," "Love and Happiness", and "Let's Stay Together". In 2005, Rolling Stone named him #65 in their list of the '100 Greatest Artists of All Time'. The nomination, written by Justin Timberlake, stated that "people are born to do certain things, and Al was born to make us smile." The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted Green in 1995, referring to him as "one of the most gifted purveyors of soul music." Green has sold more than 20 million records. Green was born in Forrest City, Arkansas. He was the sixth of ten children born to Robert and Cora Greene. The son of a sharecropper, he started performing at age ten in a Forrest City quartet called the Greene Brothers; he dropped the final "E" from his last name years later as a solo artist. They toured extensively in the mid-1950s in the South until the Greenes moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan, when they began to tour around Michigan. His father kicked him out of the group because he caught Green listening to Jackie Wilson. Green formed a group called Al Greene & the Creations in high school. ENDLESS LOVE .. Mariah Carey & Luther Vandross
ENDLESS LOVE .. Mariah Carey & Luther Vandross
"Endless Love" is a song written by Lionel Richie and originally recorded as a duet between Richie and fellow soul singer Diana Ross. In this ballad, the singers declare their "endless love" for one another. It was covered by soul singer Luther Vandross with R&B singer Mariah Carey and also by country music singer Kenny Rogers. The song also was featured in the movies "Beethoven" and "Happy Gilmore." Billboard has named it the greatest song duet of all time. Walter Afanasieff produced Luther Vandross and Mariah Carey's cover of the song for Vandross' Epic Records-released album Songs, and it is known for being Carey's first "high-profile" duet (an earlier duet, "I'll Be There," was with the then-unknown background singer Trey Lorenz). At the 1995 Grammy Award's, the song was nominated in the new category of Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, losing to "Funny How Time Slips Away" by Al Green and Lyle Lovett. Columbia Records later included the song on Carey's compilation album Greatest Hits (2001) and then again on her next compilation album, The Ballads (2008). It was released as the second single from Songs in 1994.

Etta James dies in California at the age of 73.
Etta James' performance of the enduring classic "At Last" was the embodiment of refined soul: Angelic-sounding strings harkened the arrival of her passionate yet measured vocals as she sang tenderly about a love finally realized after a long and patient wait. In real life, little about James was as genteel as that song. The platinum blonde's first hit was a saucy R&B number about sex, and she was known as a hell-raiser who had tempestuous relationships with her family, her men and the music industry. Then she spent years battling a drug addiction that she admitted sapped away at her great talents. The 73-year-old died on Friday at Riverside Community Hospital from complications of leukemia, with her husband and sons at her side, her manager, Lupe De Leon said. "It's a tremendous loss for her fans around the world," he said. "She'll be missed. A great American singer. Her music defied category." James' spirit could not be contained — perhaps that's what made her so magnetic in music; it is surely what made her so dynamic as one of R&B, blues and rock 'n' roll's underrated legends.
