Robert Taylor - Valley of the Kings (1954)
Robert Taylor - Valley of the Kings (1954)
Playlist: www.youtube.com This film was shot almost entirely on location in Egypt and was stunningly photographed by MGM cinematographer Robert L. Surtees. The splendid settings include old Cairo, Mena House Hotel, Faiyûm, the Libyan desert, The Sphinx and the three Great Pyramids at Giza, Saint Catherine's Monastery at Mount Sinai, The Step Pyramid of Sakkara, the Temple of Luxor and the Temples of Abu Simbel and Philae at its original locations. The temple complexes of Abu Simbel and Philae were removed in 1964 and relocated to higher ground due to the rising waters of the huge lake (Lake Nasser) created as result of the construction of the Aswan High Dam. Music score was composed by Miklós Rózsa.

Bleda, tired of war and hungry, bloody campaigns, wants to settle as allies of Rome in peace, his brother Attila believes only in the power of the sword. Roman general Aethius, who knows the Huns well as a result of former hostage exchanges, fails to get a true peace but buys a shaky one promising doubled tribute. The court of weakling emperor Valentinianus, moved north from Rome to Ravenna, where the true ruler is empress-mother Galla Placidia, widow of a barbarian king, refuses the terms and imprisons Aethius, who still refuses to seize power with Valentinian's sister Honoria. The ambitious princess now offers her hand and the empire as dowry to Attila, just what Bleda hoped for. Scorning peace, Attila has popular Bleda murdered during a hunt...

Music: original score composed by Miklós Rózsa ("Farewell Tims Anger" ad "Houseguest", edited by me). My favorite film score by Miklós Rózsa after "Valley of the Kings" (1954). The movie was uploaded the day before yesterday but Youtube has desynchronized audio & video in some sequences. I'm working on that now. I hope to be here tomorrow with the whole movie. Pleasant Valley Sunday-Monkees cover; comp. Goffin / King by DAN
My version of the Monkees' 1967 rocker about life in "Suburbia", Gerry Goffin and Carole King's "Pleasant Valley Sunday"... The original recording was a combination of Monkees and studio musicians. Micky sang on the original, Mike double tracked lead guitar, Peter played electric piano,Davy sang back up, and 3 studio players made up the rhythm section; Chip Douglas, Bill Chadwick and Eddie Hoh. Mike got his distinctive lead sound by double-tracking his black 1954 Gibson Les Paul Custom, which was a very "woody" type sound. I duplicated that with 2 tracks of my Gibson Johnny A. hollow body, which I also added a rhythm track with. The main melody was played on my Carvin DC-127 / 12-string, for that "typical 60's sound"... Much like the original, the ending is ambiguous and abrupt. This was a fun track, and I hope you all enjoy ! gtrDan1963 claims no ownership of the music or media images diplayed herein. Mona Lisa Song by Nat King Cole
Nat King Coles song; Mona Lisa is an Academy Award-winning song written by Ray Evans and Jay Livingston for the Paramount Pictures film Captain Carey, USA (1950). The soundtrack version by Nat King Cole spent 8 weeks as number 1 in the Billboard chart in the USA in 1950. Also, Cole's version of the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1992. In 1987, it was used as the theme of the British film Mona Lisa. An unaccredited version of Mona Lisa plays in the background of one scene in Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window (1954). The famous painting: Mona Lisa (also known as La Giaconda) is a 16th century portrait painted in oil on a poplar panel by Leonardo da Vinci throughout the Italian Renaissance.

Secret of the Incas - Pt.1
UPDATE:!!! As of December 8th, I've noticed that this video is now available as a "Watch Instantly" on NetFlix. If there has been a re-release of it, I'm sure this won't be here much longer.....First, my disclaimer: This movie is considered to be in the public domain as defined by US copyright law and the Berne Convention, and no rights are given or implied. Harry Steele (Charlton Heston) is the smart, two-fisted relic hunter who has found the secret hiding place of ancient Inca gold, high in the Peruvian Andes at fabled Machu Picchu, and is willing to use anyone or anything to get there; Dr. Stanley Moorehead (Robert Young) is the idealistic archeologist who wants to give the long-lost treasure back to the Peruvian people; Elena Atonescu (Nicole Maury) is the beautiful and seductive refugee they both fall for, and who will stop at nothing to stay out from behind the Iron Curtain; Kori-Tika (Yma Sumac) is the exotic Inca priestess, whose otherworldly singing is the only way to pacify the restless Peruvian natives; Ed Morgan (Thomas Mitchell) is the murderous thief, driven by a lifetime of greed, who is trying to steal the treasure for a last great score. Harry must race them all to find the treasure, using a secret of his own - only Harry knows the ancient ritual which will reveal the hidden gold in the tomb of the last Inca King, in a stunning scene that influenced the Well of Souls from "Raiders Of The Lost Ark".
