www.facebook.com *Mexicans of European descent... As Mexico was colonized by Spain, the majority of white Mexicans are of Spanish descent, or criollos, as they were referred to in colonial times. However, many other immigrants (mostly French) also arrived during the Second Mexican Empire, and during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the majority from Italy, Germany, Ireland, the United Kingdom and Israel.[2][3] Greeks, Romanians, Portuguese, Armenians, Poles, Russians, Jews, White Americans and Euro Canadians, and immigrants from other Slavic countries,[3] along with many more Spanish refugees fleeing the Spanish Civil War, also settled in Mexico 1921 Census The Mexican Government asked Mexicans about their perception of their own racial heritage. In the 1921 census, residents of the Mexican Republic were asked if they fell into one of the following categories:[5] "Indígena pura" (of pure indigenous heritage) "Indígena mezclada con blanca" (of mixed indigenous and white heritage) "Blanca" (of Spanish or other white ancestry) "Extranjeros sin distinción de razas" (Foreigners without racial distinction) "Cualquiera otra o que se ignora la raza" (Either other or chose to ignore the race) Pure indigenous heritage: 4179449 {29%} Mixed indigenous and white: 8504561 {59%} White or Spanish heritage: 1404718 (10%) Total population: 14334780 [edit] Regions Mexico's northern regions have the greatest European population and admixture. Interview with Norman J. Feitelson, WWII veteran. CCSU Veterans History Project
Interview conducted by Eileen Hurst. Norman Feitelson tried to enlist in the US Air Force in 1942, but failed the entrance exam due to an eye test. He then decided to wait to enter the service until he was drafted. He was drafted into the US Army with 18 others from Waterbury, Ct in June of 1943. He went to basic training at Camp Edwards, which was in Cape Cod, Ma. He attended basic training for eleven months, where he learned how to be a range setter for an anti-aircraft unit. He describes the training as very difficult because of the weather and terrain of Massachusetts in the summertime. Although his unit (836th Anti-aircraft Battalion), was supposed to ship overseas in anticipation of D-Day, instead the unit was disassembled and the soldiers were broken into different divisions. Feitelson was placed in an infantry unit, and shipped to Fort Dix for infantry and artillery training. He was then sent to Louisiana and Fort Bragg before going overseas. Feitelson sailed to Scotland with 30, 000 other soldiers and was assigned to the 5th infantry division, 11th infantry regiment as a replacement just after the Battle of the Bulge. His job in this unit was to operate an automatic rifle which weighed 17 ½ pounds, and had to be carried everywhere. Just two days after landing in France to join his unit, he experienced combat during the Battle of Bitburg. On his very first patrol he saw men killed. Feitelson describes what the men ate and the conditions of living in a combat ...

20. Teen Sexuality and Teen Pregnancy
Global Problems of Population Growth (MCDB 150) Rates of teen pregnancy in the US are quite high, in contrast to European countries which have much lower rates, especially those with liberal attitudes toward sexuality. Traditionally, puberty and marriage were simultaneous. Now, the many years spent in education leaves a long time between those life stages. Sex education is not particularly strong. Contraception has allowed the rate of teen pregnancy to decrease steadily in spite of the fact that teen sex is consistently increasing. Non-marital childbearing is high in all industrialized countries. 00:00 - Chapter 1. Introduction to Teen Sexuality and Pregnancy 10:00 - Chapter 2. John Micklethwait, editor-in-chief of The Economist, visits the Google London office to discuss his new book, "God is back: how the global rise of faith is changing the world". This talk took places as part of the Authors@Google series, on 16th September 2009. The book argues that religion and modernity can thrive together, and that the American way of religion is becoming the norm. The global rise of faith will have a dramatic and far- reaching impact on our century. God Is Back shines a bright light on the hidden world of faith, from exorcisms in São Paulo to religious skirmishing in Nigeria, to harassed Muslims in India and vibrant house churches in China (where there are already more Christians than Communist Party members). If you want to understand the politics of this century, you cannot afford to ignore God, whether you believe in Him or not.
