Let's see if we can write a teaser about our KOTOR 2 mod guide without a single Star Wars pun. We've put our favorite files for this amazing RPG in one easy to find location, one of which restores lost content that ended up on the cutting room floor, as well as several files that overhaul the game's visual look. Unfortunately if you're looking for a mod that turns the game into an FPS, this is not the mod that you're looking for. Dammit, we just couldn't resist the dark side. Read More »

Of Hydralisks & Phalanxes #2: The Perfect Real-Time Strategy Game

By Tom Chick | PC Articles | Aug 5, 2011 5:30 PM | Comment

I don't make games; I just play them. Which is too bad for you, because if I made games, I would make the perfect real-time strategy game. Not that I have anything against turn-based games, but the perfect one of those has already been made. Several times, in fact. Brian Reynolds' Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, Imperialism II: The Age of Exploration, and Sid Meier's Civilization IV, for instance. Fortunately, most of the hard work for the perfect real-time strategy game has already been done. It just hasn't been done in the same game. Read More »

Virtual Balls (of Steel)

By Julian Murdoch | PC Articles | Aug 5, 2011 3:00 PM | Comment

For the past year, I'd been building a virtual pinball machine in my basement. Like the world's nerdiest hot-rod, the project consumed my weekend hours with tinkering, tuning, wiring, and occasionally testing. But it was done, and thanks to the hard work of countless unpaid open-source programmers, artists, physicists, hobbyists, line chefs, and pinball nuts, I had 30 virtual tables running in a simulator. Brink: Agents of Change Review

By Mike Sharkey | PC Reviews | Aug 5, 2011 12:00 PM | Comment

Brink launched with some lag-inducing bugs that made the multiplayer a freezing frustration for console players. The PC version? Not so much. Publisher Bethesda apologized by making the first downloadable content pack for the game, Brink: Agents of Change, free for two weeks. So, in an unlikely twist, console pain turned out to be PC gain. But in truth, every platform wins with Agents of Change, a robust add-on featuring two solid maps and some new game-enhancing abilities. Read More »

Brink Goes Free to Play All Weekend

By Bennett Ring | PC News | Aug 4, 2011 6:12 PM | Comment

Brink was a criminally underrated game, with the PC version dragged down by rushed console reviews. With its laser-beam focus on team play, sexy cartoonish visuals and innovative movement system that lets you jump, slide and vault your way through the environment, it's a title that every PC FPS fan should check out. It just became very affordable to do so, with the game being 100% free to play on Steam until Sunday, 1pm PDT. What are you waiting for? Read More »

Deus Ex: Ninja vs Rambo Hands-on

By Adam Mathew | PC Previews | Aug 4, 2011 2:30 PM | Comment

JC Denton was just a codename. A sunglassed anybody whose identity could be shaped through your choices and approach. Frankly, this blank-slate malleability was half of the character's appeal. In contrast, we have Deus Ex: Human Revolution's Adam Jensen. He shares the shades and the gruff, gently inquisitive voice, but thanks to an extensive backstory and cutting-edge cinematics, he's a much more fleshed-out character. Figuratively speaking, at least. Read More »
