About Subcity Radio

"SubCity was a magical world of stuffy studios, tangled cables, loud, late-night dance music and unrivalled creativity."
- Dougal Perman, Programme Director - Inner Ear Ltd (home to Radio Magnetic)

Subcity Radio is the radio station based at University of Glasgow, which for the last 15 years has been pushing the boundaries of student radio in all respects. Unlike most other student stations, Subcity has always been aimed squarely at music lovers. With no set playlist and 90% specialist programming, it has consistently provided a service unavailable anywhere else in Glasgow.

Subcity covers almost every musical base, including Motown, Drum and Bass, Synthpop, Jazz and Techno with interesting and engaging presenters providing information on the music they play. The station broadcasts online all year round and annually on FM. Listen.

Subcity has a long history as one of the staples of the Glasgow club scene. Their events attract major attention from the press and have launched the careers of some of the cities biggest DJs including; Optimo, Freakmenoovers, Mixed Business and Mish Mash.

Subcity provides a connection with the Glasgow music community, whether through its programming, events or through the forums where listeners go to find out what's fresh on the Glasgow music scene straight from the source - from underground parties to the latest releases from your favourite artists and labels.

All Subcity content is independently produced by contributors who have an active interest in the station. No matter what the style is, from geeky music shows to whimsical chat, as long as it is interesting and engaging it can make it onto the Subcity schedule.

Tech

In order for the media types to fanny about making podcasts and reviewing CDs, the station's geeks have to keep the microphones working, the transmitter tuned and the servers running smoothly. A place on the station's technical team will also see you recording bands in session, setting up club nights and outside broadcasts in some of the city's coolest venues. A basic knowledge of electronics and sound equipment is useful but not essential.
