🌧️ Hours later, I’m still wet. It was as crazy as we expected.

🌧️ Who wants to join in, and go for a run? Maybe some rolling around in the muddy grass?

Got here a little earlier than required. AMA.

☔ Day Two of the assignment. Still raining. Today we’re going outside. Should be fun.

☁️ Putting that 1TB to good use by backing up my Instagram account.

Instagram, according to Wikipedia, was created on Oct 6, 2010. That’s how old my account is. I am old too.

📐 Second one for Assignment #3 of the #TheCompoChallenge. A DoubleFramed in this one!

One left to do!

☁️ Testing Nextcloud, via Hetzner’s Storage Share. Pretty nice, but might be overkill for my needs.

Still, considering I might use it to store a ton of client photos (they LOVE to ask for them months later), and save some money on the occasional Smash subscription…

🌧️ Rain (a lot of it) expected for the weekend. A weekend when I’m shooting outdoor activities.

I suppose the pros will still come for the Sunday event, but I’d be surprised if the amateurs did the same on Saturday.

🙌🏼 Bingo! If an app truly deserves the Swiss Army Knife of Apps award, it is the most versatile app out there: PhotoSync! Of course I can use it to send photos with the Share Sheet to Koofr!

thingsThisWeek #128

Italy is over, we’re back home. No more snow, just more rain than we bargained for. Short update.

👮🏻‍♂️ Fresh off the airplane, nearly no sleep at all, I jumped into an assignment. Shooting Spanish (and other Spanish-speaking) cops in training. Then walked for miles trying to find a flower for one of tinyMovieStar’s costumes. I went to a handful of shops. On foot. With rain. Came home without the flower.

👁 My eye started to feel weird at this point, and soon I had full blown conjunctivitis. Not cool. It would be a while before that was fixed. The whole week, in fact.

🌳 We moved to the in-laws, as we often do. School was out until Thursday, so we had plenty of time to enjoy Grandma/Grandpa. Spent a good portion of the day looking at wallets, and couldn’t find one that I’m willing to ditch my current one for. I still believe the FREITAG X Secrid colab is a great product. I could go for a simple Secrid, but would miss the playfulness of the FREITAG bit.

🕵🏻‍♂️ Sunday was crazy! My brother called, said my dad had missed lunch, and his phone was off. My mom was worried sick. They got on a car and drove around trying to find him. They could not. We then started to properly worry. Hours went by. Turns out he was way out of town, with friends. He had told my mom, a week prior, and she forgot all about it! It feels like my heart stopped beating for a while.

That made me order an AirTag (I had a Rhinokey in the mail already, for me - more below).

💃🏻 Monday and Tuesday were a blur. A blur of food, fireplace, and fun. Carnival, even though we don’t celebrate. I can’t help but feel that a Brazilian-type carnival over here makes absolutely no sense, but my fellow countrymen think differently. Brazilians dance half naked in the summer heat, thousands of them. Portuguese dance half naked in the winter rain, dozens of them. It just looks stupid.

🗳 Crazy politics, in and out of the country. I won’t go into detail about the stupid shit that’s going on in the US, but now we also have our own issues, our PM is about to be forced out of office. Elections coming up next.

🌧 We got back to the city late on Tuesday, and went to the movies the following day. School still closed, we needed to keep her entertained. It was raining. Again. It’s always raining these days.

👩🏻‍🏫 Thursday was back to school day. movieStar left earlier for the office, we stayed home. Waiting for the little one to wake up, no rush. When she did, I got her dressed, fed, and took her to school. Won’t say it wasn’t hard. It is always hard after so many days. We spent two weeks together, 24/7, and it’s never easy to let her go after that.

📺 No tv. Again. Odd.

🍿 The Order. Paddington in Peru.

📷 Hiro’s Photo Challenge is ongoing. Last week’s theme: lines. Diagonal, leading,… My entries are published here, here, and here.

📍 It all started when I ordered a Rhinokey’s Smartcard. That was followed by an AirTag (the Mom/Dad situation). And, after that, a Chipolo ONE Spot.

Rhinokey is not something I can recommend. They failed to ship. Then, when I emailed, they apologised, and told me they were on it. Days later, there was an “error” with my address. False. I sent them a screenshot of their confirmation email, showing there was nothing wrong with it. Then they said it was backordered. In the meantime a week had elapsed. Shitty service, shitty customer service, shitty everything. They still haven’t shipped the damn thing today. After a week!

On the other hand, the opposite happens with Apple. The item is shipped on the same day, and it’s home on the next one. From Italy. Even before the Rhinokey people had replied for the first time!

To finish the roundup, Chipolo shipped quite quickly as well. It takes a LOT longer to get here, though. Apple uses DHL, the others rely on DPD, which has a much worse service over here.

Turns out I was waiting for another delivery, also with DPD.

We were away when the deliveries were supposed to happen. I quickly found a way to reschedule DHL. It worked. I then tried the same with DPD. Asked for a change of address, they should drop it at one of their Drop Locations (not what they’re called, but can’t be bothered to check). I got the confirmation, it would be left there. Much to my surprised, I then got a phone call from the delivery person, letting me know my house was their next stop. I told him I had requested the alteration, and that it had been confirmed. He had no idea, but said he’d leave it there. He did not. It went back to the warehouse. I had no idea. A couple of days later I tried to figure out where it was, battling with a stupid AI bot, until I decided to spend a morning hunting down a phone number. I called, and a new delivery was scheduled. Had I not called, they would not bother to try to fix their mistake. The package, by the way, is still at the warehouse. Brilliant.

☁️ Koofr. I signed up for the 10GB free tier. Then I read a few reviews, comparisons, stuff. Adding a few more GB is super cheap, and adds a few features. I did that. Blame it, again, on Jason. I will test it this weekend, with an assignment that has me sending a lot of photos. I can use Transmit (iOS/macOS), Dropshare, and Mountain Duck! Happy.

Tweek. Let’s see. They emailed with a 30%-off offer, after I’d decided I was not going to use it. And I’m a sucker for those. I’m in, for now.

🇮🇹 The italyBsides tag is still getting updated. Not a lot more to post, but some more will show up.

🤬 Great! Wake up at 5 something AM, and find out the guy who managed the Kagi Family account on Sharesub decided to close it down. I am now family-less, and Kagi-less!

🍿 We went to the movies. Proper movies, at the theater.

👀 Tradition! We have a tinyStickerSpotter!

☁️ Koofr it is!

Added a few more GB to the (generous) free tier, and I’m testing it this weekend. I have to send a few photos then.

EU company too. Thanks, Jason.

🚙 For the car enthusiasts out there, a very cool vintage Italian: the Fiat Campagnola.
