Our work

UK Sport is the nation’s high-performance sports agency, funded by the Government and The National Lottery. Our mission is to work in partnership to lead Olympic and Paralympic sport in the UK to world class success.

The investment we deliver and the strategic direction we provide has helped British sports and athletes deliver 196 Olympic and 391 Paralympic medals at summer games since London 2012. Alongside 12 Olympic and 19 Paralympic medals at winter games, since Sochi 2014.

Our other responsibilities include supporting the hosting of major sporting events, increasing sporting influence internationally, and promoting the highest standards of governance, sporting conduct, ethics and diversity in society. We achieve this through:

• Strategic investment into Olympic and Paralympic sport
• Developing the people and programmes that support our leading athletes in the areas of coaching, governance, talent identification and, through the UK Sports Institute, sports science, medicine and technology.
• Bidding for and staging major sporting events - with the aim of delivering economic and social benefits for the UK, and supporting our athletes in their games preparation by hosting important qualification events on home soil.
• Building positive working relationships with international federations and sporting bodies.
