OPINION: I remember the earthquake as if it was yesterday night. I woke up with a roaring noise as of a lion coming from the ground, then thunder out from the window and then, all of a sudden, a huge impact to the west of our home as if a freight train crashed into the first story. The house moved like Jello.

OPINION: The evening before the earthquake, I had been overindulged by my aunts, leaving me to languish in bed the next day with a terrible hangover. I awoke stark naked to the sight of the chandelier in my living room swinging so violently that it hit the ceiling.

OPINION: I was just home from a 37 day hospital stay. I was hooked up to a 12 hour a day feeding tube. Fortunately able to borrow a generator to keep things going. The power was back on by late night. We had a cracked gas line.

OPINION: Taking Highway 29 to go home after attending a party? Make sure you have a sober driver if drinking. It is not okay to drive just a block if intoxicated or “a little buzzed.” No need to ruin lives. Don’t drive drunk.

OPINION: Over 30 years, Joe Peatman and I crossed paths many times in many different situations, and although I was never a client or a relative or a close friend, his influence and the importance of the manner in which he was able to solve problems and initiate positive outcomes for Napa Valley citizens and very difficult situations is a testament to all that is good about him and about the Napa Valley itself.

OPINION: It sounded like a train was coming into our bedroom and woke us with a start! My late husband Dave and I were enjoying a quiet morning in our Carneros home, but a crazy day unfolded.
