Meet Myriam, a partnership and sales professional based in Paris, France. As a single woman in her late thirties, Myriam decided she was ready to become a mother and build her family. She began looking into freezing her eggs and intrauterine insemination (IUI). But Myriam encountered more obstacles than anticipated. Until June of 2021, French law only allowed heterosexual married couples to access fertility treatments. While the laws have finally changed, Myriam found that conservative cultural attitudes towards fertility have yet to catch up. Many providers at fertility clinics weren’t supportive of her decision to have her first child with a sperm donor. That’s where Maven came in with accessible, straightforward, and empathetic care. From getting necessary fertility equipment that only shipped to the U.K. to France, to navigating the stigma and silence around fertility anxiety, Maven helped Myriam through all the unexpected emotional and logistical stressors of the process. Many new mothers in the U.S. face the difficult choice of returning to work just two weeks after giving birth, with this lack of support impacting low-income families and families of color hardest. The result? ▪️54% of postpartum women face financial stress. ▪️60% of postpartum women struggle to afford healthcare. Paid maternity leave isn't just about time off—it's essential for the health and well-being of mothers, babies, and employers alike. Companies offering 12 weeks of paid leave see 70% less turnover and better maternal mental health outcomes. Want to update your maternity leave strategy? Here's a sample leave policy to help inform your company's approach: https://bit.ly/3X5aKjk

The U.S. ranks worst among developed nations in maternal mortality, with minority populations, especially Black women, disproportionately affected. What's more, 1 in 3 U.S. counties lacked essential obstetric care in 2023, with nearly 7 million women residing in maternity care deserts. Doula care is proven to improve birth outcomes and address these disparities, but despite their proven benefits, only 6% of U.S. births have doula support due to high costs. But virtual doulas are changing the game. Our research, published late last year, revealed two key findings: 🔑 Virtual doula care on Maven improves birth experiences as effectively as in-person doula care. 🔑 Virtual doula care reduces C-section odds by nearly 20% for all members, and by almost 60% for Black members. This parental burnout especially impacts working parents: 2 out of 3 working parents report experiencing burnout at work, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that lost productivity due to burnout and other mental health issues costs American companies $44 billion annually. There are many misconceptions about how IVF actually works—but those who have experienced it know that the realities of the process are more complicated than they might appear. Last month, 30 current and former fertility patients opened up about their unexpectedly long and challenging IVF journeys in a powerful piece by Annie Daly for Allure Magazine. This collection of unfiltered stories includes one from Maven’s Senior Medical Director, Danielle Dang. As a family medicine resident, Danielle underwent five back-to-back egg retrievals that ultimately resulted in five frozen embryos. But a few years later, when she and her husband went to test and implant the embryos, none worked. After 7.5 years of infertility, they ultimately had a son using a donor egg. Danielle views this experience—and her disenchantment with the fertility system—as one of the biggest reasons that she joined Maven, where every day she works to reimagine fertility as something affordable, accessible, and transparent—something that eases the patient burden rather than adding to it. Read more about Danielle’s experience, in her own words, and the 29 other stories of past and present fertility journeys: https://lnkd.in/euaqpRgZ

“Is there enough flexibility in my role to work from home more often?” “What should I do if I unexpectedly need to take time off to take care of my baby?” “How do I ask for more support without feeling like I’m burdening the team?” With the lines between work and life more blurred than ever, working parents are bringing challenging questions to HR and their managers. So how do the best leaders approach these conversations? The main rule: If you’re hearing the word “sorry,” question what you could do differently to level-set on your team. Swipe for the dos and don’ts of talking to working parents, and find the full guide (and tons of other resources) over on Maven’s family benefits resource hub: https://bit.ly/4cto4DE
