The video consists of a series of animated scenes explaining why Sport England has created its new ‘Every Move’ sustainability strategy, and outlines some of the main aspects of the strategy. The video is set to a gentle music track with voiceover narration.
Voiceover: Climate change is the single biggest threat facing both us and the planet.
A series of different sports balls are shown on screen in quick succession. These then transition into an anthropomorphic planet earth, who is breathing heavily and sweating.
Voiceover: We are the first generation to feel the impact of climate change,
The face on the earth disappears, and we see cars and planes travelling around the perimeter of the planet, emitting fumes. Some dead trees are scattered around, along with overflowing bins.
Voiceover: and we are the last generation that can do something about it.
This scene then transitions into a more positive vision of the earth, featuring green trees, cyclists and recycling bins.
Voiceover: So while it may not be convenient or easy,
The earth changes to a cricket ball. A bat swings into view and knocks the ball into the sky.
Voiceover: we have to act now.
The cricket ball changes to a football mid-flight. It lands on a waterlogged pitch. A football boot comes on screen from above and traps the ball.
Voiceover: Every Move is our sustainability strategy, to bring about lasting change across the sport and physical activity sector.
A new scene with a clear blue background slides up from below.
A folder of papers appears in the middle of the screen. The top page has the text ‘Every Move’ in bold letters.
Some green leaves fan out from the document.
Voiceover: It is our roadmap to carbon neutrality, in a way that ensures everyone has equal access to high-quality green and blue space, and physical activity is sustainably embedded into our daily lives.
A new scene appears, showing an urban park with various forms of activity taking place. There is a river in the foreground. The park has various trees and grassy verges. In the distance, a train travels across screen from left to right, while some birds circle in the sky.
Some rowers row past, while some ducks swim in the other direction.
A man walks by with a pram while two cyclists pass by, one on an adapted bike.
In the background, two children play football, another person skips, and another couple relax by a bench.
Voiceover: Our industry will be one of the sustainability pacesetters,
A new scene appears, showing a female cyclist pedalling on a bike that has Sport England logos in the wheels. The bike is perched across the top of a globe.
Voiceover: and we’ll do this by taking action in five key areas.
A title screen appears on a dark blue background.
The text ‘5 key areas’ is shown above 5 different icons, each on a coloured background drawn from the Sport England colour palette.
A cog with arrows rotating around it.
An open palm of a hand holding a heart icon.
A flowing plant with a currency symbol within it.
A globe.
A megaphone.
Voiceover: Our operations
The ‘5 key areas’ text disappears and is replace with ‘Our operations’.
The first logo with the cog expands slightly in size, while the others all scale down.
Voiceover: Being the change we want to see, by decarbonising our offices and our National Sports Centres.
A Sport England office building appears. Large leaves fan out from the sides. Electric vehicles with charging points appear in front of the building. A bike rack appears, along with two recycling bins.
Voiceover: Setting ourselves targets to reduce our carbon emissions by 50% by 2030 and to achieve net zero by 2040.
The building transitions off screen. The text ‘reduce carbon emissions by 50%’ and ‘2030’ appear. This text then changes to say ‘achieve net zero by’ and ‘2040’.
Voiceover: Signing up to the United Nations’ ‘Sports for Climate Action’ pledge.
A clipboard rotates into view, holding a page with a large title saying ‘Sports for Climate Action’. A hand holding a pen comes into view, signing ‘Sport England’ underneath.
Voiceover: Reducing the impact of our travel
An isometric view of a multi-use games area, with people travelling around the outside using bikes and scooters. Some bikes are parked against the side.
Voiceover: and educating our staff to build sustainability into their everyday work.
The scene transitions into an office interior. A person is sat in an armchair while another works at a desk. A recycling bin is in the background. Another person is seen switching a tungsten lightbulb for an LED bulb.
Voiceover: Our support
The dark blue title screen re-appears, this time with the text ‘Our support’ and the emphasis on the second icon with the open palm of a hand holding a heart.
Voiceover: Helping our partners to play their part, clearly defining our expectations and how we’ll support them to do it.
A giant green hand is shown holding up 6 different human characters, representing partners, while clouds float past. Speech bubbles appear, indicating dialogue between the partners.
Voiceover: Developing a resource hub, tools, training, webinars and networks for us all to learn from each other.
A series of icons flip up and land above the partners.
Resource hub: A cog in a wheel with various spokes.
Tools: A spanner and screwdriver.
Training: Someone delivering a presentation.
Webinars: Someone watching a screen with a presenter.
Networks: Icons of people connected by lines.
Voiceover: Our investment
The dark blue title screen re-appears, this time with the text ‘Our investment’ and the emphasis on the third icon with the flowing plant containing a currency symbol.
Voiceover: Helping our partners improve their own sustainability processes from the top down, so it’s a standard part of everything they do.
A green rectangle appears, with some leaves contained within. Two hands appear from either side, with a handshake taking place in the middle. As the hands continue to shake, the rectangle morphs into a triangle, with a flat edge at the top and point at the bottom.
Voiceover: Funding sustainability initiatives through our new Movement Fund and making sustainability a requirement of all our funding criteria.
The hands disappear, and the triangle morphs back to a rectangle.
The rectangle now looks like a monetary note, with a currency symbol on one side, and the silhouette of a head on the other.
The words ‘Movement Fund’ appear above the rectangle.
Voiceover: Influencing the natural and built environment
The dark blue title screen re-appears, this time with the text ‘Influencing the natural and built environment’ and the emphasis on the fourth icon with the globe.
Voiceover: Working to create environments that encourage people to move more, reduce emissions and increase biodiversity.
A grassy park is shown, with lots of trees in the background. A cyclist rides past from left to right. After the cyclist has passed by, the scene zooms in to a large bush where large number of butterflies can be seen.
Voiceover: Developing our partnerships with large land-owning organisations such as the National Trust and Forestry England, to create new walking and cycling routes and improve biodiversity.
A new scene appears. A stag can be seen lying on some grass, surrounded by plants. The National Trust and Forestry England logos appear on either side of the screen. The stag slides off screen and is replaced by a signpost indicating walking and cycling routes, while an insect flies past.
Voiceover: Our advocacy
The dark blue title screen re-appears, this time with the text ‘Our advocacy’ and the emphasis on the fifth icon with the megaphone.
Voiceover: Using our voice to influence policy, and helping our sector drive sustainable action.
Two megaphones are shown, with sound waves emanating from them. A clipboard holding a document is in between them. The document has a tick symbol on it.
Voiceover: Making sure everyone is aware of the links between climate change, participation and inequalities, and ensure combatting it, is at the heart of our mission.
Three jigsaw pieces appear. The leftmost piece has the text ‘participation’, the middle piece has the text ‘climate change’, and the rightmost piece has the text ‘inequalities’. The three pieces slide together and click into place.
The completed jigsaw is then shown within a heart symbol.
Voiceover: We don’t have all the answers or knowledge, so we want to work with the sector to learn and innovate.
A new scene appears, with a circle at the centre. Within the circle, four hands slide in from different directions, meeting in the middle.
Voiceover: Together we’ll embed environmental sustainability into every move we make.
The text ‘together we’ll embed environmental sustainability into every move we make’ appears on screen, split across a number of separate text title screens.
An ending slide appears with the Sport England logo, and a URL pointing to more information at ‘sportengland.org/everymove’.
