Environmental Lab Scientist

Techstaff has an immediate assignment available for the Hillsborough County Environmental Laboratory for a Senior Scientist or Environmental Lab Specialist to perform organics testing using GC/MS and GC including method set-up, validation, SOP writing.

The ideal candidate will have ~5 years of GC/MS & GC experience ideally with a background in Environmental Lab Testing (Specifically National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (NELAP)).

Initial duty is to set up and validate EPA methods for organic compound testing. Likely starting with Disinfection byproduct testing (DBPs) and then branch off from there. There will be lots of reading of EPA methods, writing of SOPs. They have a GC/MS onsite now that is an Agilent system. This role will work solely on that machine and the new GC being procured now (requested Agilent).

Job Specifications

• Experience writing SOP's
• Knowledge of laboratory analysis methods and procedures.
• Knowledge of sampling and testing.
• Knowledge of water testing
• Knowledge of Federal, State, and local environmental control and mitigation laws and regulations.
• Skill in the use and operation of laboratory equipment.
• Ability to use a computer and related software.
• Ability to conduct and interpret chemical laboratory test results.
• Ability to use and maintain laboratory equipment.
• Ability to work effectively with others.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  

This position will initially be a long-term temporary assignment 6/12 months. Expectation is for the position to be budgeted for full time hire during one of the next budget cycles.

Position is Mon - Fri 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
