Sport in Wales would certainly look very different without National Lottery contributions.
When you buy a lottery ticket, you support the people, communities and infrastructure which enable sport in Wales to thrive.
Thanks to National Lottery players, £30 million is raised every week for good causes. To say a huge thank you to the National Lottery, we want to showcase the fantastic work supported by the National Lottery and its players!
Welsh Sport and The National Lottery
How lottery money shapes Welsh sport
Each year, the National Lottery invests millions of pounds into Welsh sport at a strategic and grassroots level.
This includes investing in community clubs and supporting elite athletes to achieve their dreams. National Lottery money is also behind some iconic Welsh sporting venues, including the Principality Stadium in Cardiff and the National Pool in Swansea.
Sport in Wales would look very different without National Lottery contributions. Without National Lottery investment, many of the activities that Sport Wales embarks on would not be possible, many of our elite athletes would not have the support framework that they currently do, and many of our clubs would not exist in the way that they do now.
THANKING THE NATIONAL LOTTERY FOR THE BE ACTIVE WALES FUND
From helping to pay for kit and equipment to funding courses so that volunteers can become qualified coaches, the National Lottery supported Be Active Wales Fund is enabling sports clubs all over Wales to thrive, with better facilities, equipment, and training opportunities for all.
With grants aimed at supporting clubs to reduce inequality, create long-term sustainability and introduce new or different ways of operating, the Be Active Wales Fund has helped over 500 clubs since its launch in July 2020 and continues to support grassroots clubs in every area of Wales.
If you are one of the clubs or organisations who have benefitted from the Fund, check out how you can say thank you to its supporters – The National Lottery.
THE NATIONAL LOTTERY AND ELITE SPORT IN WALES
The National Lottery doesn’t just fund grassroots clubs – in this 2022-23 financial year, over £7 million of National Lottery funding has been allocated to support high performance sport in Wales and directly funded Welsh athletes. National Lottery funding shapes the stories of elite Welsh athletes, from supporting the grassroots clubs through which they emerged, to ensuring the future of buildings and arenas in which they train and perform.
THE NATIONAL LOTTERY AND SPORT WALES PARTNERS
In the last year, National Lottery has also given more than £2 million to partners such as StreetGames Wales, The Urdd, and others who use this money to support communities across the country and give everyone in Wales the opportunity to get active. The winner of last year’s National Lottery Project of the Year was our partner, The Black Swimming Association. You can read more about their work below.
