The Sports Environment Alliance is the convenor of leaders who are committing to minimise the Australasian sport industry's impact on the natural environment, and at the same time, becoming an even more high performing industry through innovation and efficiency to protect our clean future. The alliance is an ally to provide knowledge and/or connect our members to the global network of others doing great work; we love partnerships and we want to connect our members to our partners and our partners to our other partners.     Sports Environment Alliance is delighted to announce this year’s winners of the #SEAChanger Awards, sponsored by Deloitte and Sport Executive. This year, there were three award categories: SEAChanger - SEA Member, SEAChanger - Non-Member and SEAChanger – Individual Leadership with key selection criteria that included project innovation, impact and engagement. Category finalists included: SEAChanger – SEA Member i. Belgravia Leisure for its Ascot Vale Leisure Centre Carbon Neutral Certification project ii. Netball Victoria for its NV Green Action Plan and Netball Exchange programme iii. Tennis Australia for Maximum Play, Minimum Footprint at AO24. iv. Water Polo Australia for its WPA Climate Action Strategy Development v. The Y Vic as managers for the SA Aquatic and Leisure Centre (SAALC) for their Waste Reduction and Energy Saving Strategy SEAChanger – Non-Member i. Sturt Football Club for its Double Blues Go Green initiative SEAChanger – Individual Leadership Award i. Alexia Morgan, from Belgravia Leisure for her sustainability leadership and vision at Belgravia Health and Leisure Group And the Winners are: SEAChanger – SEA Member Tennis Australia for Maximum Play, Minimum Footprint at AO24. Tennis Australia deliver the Australian Open and AO 24 in January 2024 was the culmination of many years of continuous improvement commencing in the 2022 and 2023 years. SEAChanger – Non-Member Sturt Football Club for its Double Blues Go Green initiative. Sturt Football Club's Double Blues Go Green initiative emerged from a fundamental challenge: the need to address the environmental impact of match day operations. With significant waste generation during home games, the club recognised the urgency to reduce its ecological footprint and promote sustainability. SEAChanger – Individual Leadership Award Alexia Morgan, from Belgravia Leisure for her sustainability leadership and vision at Belgravia Health and Leisure Group. Alexia has been leading the sustainability efforts of Belgravia Health and Leisure Group since 2019 and has been integral to its success in many areas. In that time, she has been able to engage the group with sustainability initiatives, including leading a Green Team of over 50 individuals across all sites. Her leadership and vision are demonstrated by achieving the first Leisure Centre in Australia to be certified Carbon Neutral through Climate Active Services standard and working to eliminate plastic waste at centres. Congratulations to each of you.     Rounding off the keynote sessions, #SEASUmmit24 now focuses on 'Preventing a warmer world: Why should sport care, and what does action look like? The first speaker, Adam Bishop, General Manager Growth & Development, Athletics Australia talks about the experience of heat in sport , particularly focusing on the athletes participating in events and how they are severally effected by heat. Our next speaker, Alexia Morgan, Group Manager, Business Improvement, Belgravia Leisure Health & Leisure deep dives into how Belgravia Health and Leisure have started addressing climate change and implement sustainability strategies by working with the owners of their assets, their suppliers an their customers.     The next session of Keynote presentations is sponsored by Bastion Reputation and focuses on setting up for tomorrows success - climate and environmental governance and leadership and why this matters. The first speaker Camilla Brockett, Professor of Sport Systems Development, iHeS - Victoria University speaks about the important role of organisational leadership in developing and implementing climate action plans in sporting organisations. Next is Jeremy Arnold, Associate Principal Consultant, Bastion Reputation who passionately speaks about what he knows best - reputational risk and why authentic leadership matters. Jeremy also focuses on the importance of bringing internal and external stakeholders along the journey. Last, but by no mean least is Rebekah Cheney, Climate Governance Lead, Deloitte Australia. Rebekah talks about the evolution of the proposed mandatory carbon and sustainability reporting for large organisations and the relevance this has for sport. Claire is sharing insights about the UN Sports for Climate Action Framework and why it's important to commit to reduce emissions and leverage the worldwide popularity of sport to engage millions of fans in the effort.
