Updated at 6:53 p.m. Wednesday — A Napa man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after reports of indecent exposure outside a school campus, according to police and school district officials.
At around noon, Shearer Elementary School, at 1590 Elm St. in the city of Napa’s Old Town neighborhood, was placed under a brief shelter-in-place order after a man walked into the parking lot, according to Napa Police Lt. Chris Pacheco. Officers at the scene detained a 50-year-old man, who was booked into the Napa County jail on a misdemeanor allegation of indecent exposure.
The sheltering order was declared out of “an abundance of caution for the safety of school staff and students,” Pacheco said in an email.
The suspect did not set foot on the Shearer school grounds before his arrest, according to Julie Bordes, spokesperson for the Napa Valley Unified School District.
“We are thankful for the fast actions of our staff and the Napa Police Department who responded immediately to ensure our students and staff remained safe and kept the individual from entering campus,” Bordes said in an email.
