The United States is rich in languages -- "In the U.S., the number of people who spoke a language other than English at home nearly tripled from 23.1 million (about 1 in 10) to 67.8 million (about 1 in 5) over three recent decades, according to the Census Bureau... Hispanics are the largest minority group in the U.S., so it’s no surprise that Spanish is the most common non-English language spoken in U.S. households. About 42 million people speak #Spanish at home (they represent roughly two-thirds of those speaking a language other than English). The top five non-English languages spoken in U.S. households also include #Chinese (spoken by 3.49 million in U.S. homes, or 5.2% of such households); #Tagalog (1.7 million, or 2.6%); #Vietnamese (1.5 million, or 2.3%); and #Arabic (1.2 million, or 1.9%)." Bahasa Indonesia Made UNESCO Official Language -- "Bahasa Indonesia, the official and national language of #Indonesia, has been designated an official #language of UNESCO at its recent General Conference in Paris. The official move to honor the lingua franca of the 17,500 islands making up the #Indonesian Archipelago was confirmed at the 42nd Session of the UNESCO General Conference in November. This makes Bahasa Indonesia UNESCO’s 10th official language, in addition to Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Hindi, Italian, Russian, Spanish, and Portuguese... The official recognition of the language may be expected to increase cultural and economic awareness of Indonesia globally. It also highlights Indonesia’s commitment to cultural development and its connection with other nations." World #Arabic #Language Day 2023 -- "The theme of World Arabic Language Day 2023 will be 'Arabic - the Language of Poetry and Arts'... The Arabic language is a pillar of the cultural diversity of humanity. It is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, used daily by more than 400 million people. World Arabic Language Day is celebrated every year on 18 December since 2012.
