After writing her senior thesis on career equality, Lindsey Brown joined #LifeAtGoogle as a Strategic Partnership Program Manager – and most recently, she’s been working on a Google.org Fellowship dedicated to nurturing Black women in STEM. “Google.org has supported the Center of Excellence for Minority Women in STEM at Spelman College since April 2023, contributing grant funding and a dedicated team of 20 Google.org Fellows and volunteers,” Lindsey says. Not having a college degree inspired Dawn, a Student Inclusion Programs Program Manager at Google, to change what people think of when they imagine the path it takes to work in tech and at Google. Encouraged by her mentor Shiv, a VP of Engineering, Dawn set out to “redefine the face of STEM by mentoring and encouraging more young girls to engage with robotics.” One of the initiatives Dawn's team works on is called Girl Powered. “It offers an environment where girls can explore robotics at their own pace, providing tools to help them succeed and supplying resources and activities that enable them to build their confidence on and off the robotics competition field,” she explains. The months after graduation weren’t easy for Googler Maia. “For me, the ‘post-college blues’ was a mindset shift in which I would no longer be living within walking distance of all my friends, thinking of my life in a semester time frame, participating in clubs and other traditional college norms,” she explains. After finding her way to Google through the BOLD Internship Program, Maia found a #LifeAtGoogle community through programs like The Collective and Navigate, which introduced her to other Black Googlers from around the world. “These identity-focused programs eased my transition into the company and also showcased how important diversity and equity is at Google,” she says. Now an Account Manager Associate, Maia feels “a new sense of freedom and autonomy post-graduation and throughout [her] early career. Meet Shinez Chalabi: a Dubai-based Googler on our Ads team. “I work with founders, venture capital firms, startups, investors, and accelerators across 16 Middle Eastern and African countries, including my home country of Algeria,” Shinez explained. “A big part of my role is helping to support clients on their digital growth journey using Google products such as Search and YouTube.” For Shinez, her journey to Google was far from straightforward.
