Course details
JSON has become the most common format for data interchange on the web, building from a JavaScript base to a wider set of API platforms. In this course, instructor Sasha Vodnik walks you through using the basic syntax of JSON and applying it in several common implementations to see how you can structure it with schemas and JSON-LD. Sasha begins by making sure you have a thorough understanding of how to build and debug JSON structures. After stepping through how to process JSON data, he shows you a variety of ways to use it. Next, Sasha covers techniques you can use to work with JSON, such as preventing data reuse and returning readable JSON data in JavaScript. He goes over how to create and validate JSON schema and how to work with schema generators. Sasha concludes with a discussion of JSON-LD and how you can use it to explain and map the structure of your data.

The essentials of using JSON
- [Sasha] JSON is one of the most commonly used data structures for exchanging information. From websites, to APIs, to direct business-to-business information exchange, JSON is commonly used because it's compact and easy to read for both people and computers. But on first glance, it can be a challenge to understand the structure of JSON, and JSON's syntax also relies on several rules that can cause issues in your data if you don't understand them. I'm Sasha Vodnik, I'm a web developer, and I work with JSON all the time. In this course, I'll walk you through the basics of JSON's syntax and use cases. I'll show you how to build your own JSON structures, and introduce you to a few situations where JSON is commonly used. By building your understanding of a few concepts, and mastering some simple tools, you'll be able to understand the structure of JSON data you work with. Let's get started.
