A powerful story from our partner NYU Langone Health about how Voyce connects patients with medical interpreters during critical moments and how our Epic EHR integration makes accessing our services easier than ever. 

“One day last fall, a young pregnant woman arrived in the Emergency Department (ED) at NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn in great physical distress. She was alone and spoke a dialect no clinician understood.” After it was identified the woman spoke K'iche', a Mayan language, a Voyce interpreter helped the woman describe her pain. She was then transferred to labor and delivery, where she gave birth to a healthy baby. “In February 2024, 41 percent of the hospital’s 12,252 Voyce sessions were initiated by clinicians in the ED.” Since being fully implemented across NYU Langone Health’s entire enterprise in November 2023, Voyce is: ✅ Used in 84% of engagements with patients who have limited proficiency in English. ✅ Integrated into the Epic EHR system, with one-click launch, automated language selection, and automatic documentation. ✅ Enabling communication in 240+ languages and dialects, including American Sign Language, often in 20 seconds or less. This MTM we are exploring the term “Edema”. Edema is the cause of excess fluid build up in the body's tissues, causing noticeable swelling. This condition can appear almost anywhere in the body, but it's most often seen in the hands, arms, feet, ankles, and legs. 🤲🦶 Understanding the cause of an edema helps determine the appropriate treatment, which may involve medications, dietary adjustments, or other medical interventions. In some instances medical terminology can be confusing, but that’s where our Voyce interpreters help. They’re trained to clearly explain conditions like edema in over 240 languages, ensuring that patients fully understand their diagnosis. Have any questions about other medical terms? Last week, Jeremy Waiser and Sahar Eslami represented Voyce at the 2024 French Language Health Reflection Day, hosted by the Assemblée de la Francophonie de l'Ontario at Collège Boréal in Toronto. Sahar shared her enthusiasm about the event: "It was a pleasure for me to present Voyce at AFO, aiming to enhance the presence and impact of the Francophone community in Ontario.
