Virtual care is changing the game when it comes to healthcare disparities in America. Rural Americans, people of color, and those in underserved urban communities like the Bronx, NY (where I worked for a number of years) face significant barriers in accessing traditional healthcare. But with virtual care, we can overcome these obstacles and achieve better health equity. A recent Forbes article highlights the impact of virtual care in achieving equitable healthcare access. The pandemic accelerated the adoption of virtual care, and we are now seeing the positive effects of carrying it out in the right way. As we implement virtual solutions, when we deeply understand traditional barriers to care and overcome these, we will realize powerful drivers for health equity.
