CHAIRMOM/Founder of The MISFITS CAMP: a creative training camp for the neurodiverse/ Former Chief Creative Officer at dentsu Creative APAC/International Speaker/Author / CNN Leading Women
Last week was momentous for me. The Misfits Camp, yes, my small training center for creatives with neurodiversity and physical disabilities was given the opportunity to join the Spikes Asia Festival. Cesca Atienza (27 years old, diagnosed with Asperger’s/ASD) and Igi Rollan (27 years old, diagnosed with PDD NOS/ASD) became the very first divergent delegates to the creative event. There were a lot of firsts for these two. It was Cesca’s first flight without her parents and her first time in Singapore. It was first for Igi to interact with other creatives outside his comfortable circle of friends. It was their first time watching inspiring, creative talks. It was their first time to see the possibilities of their creative future. On the last day of Spikes Academy, Cesca gave a very emotional speech (in perfect English) about her journey as a neurodivergent creative, including her trials and, now, triumphs. The Academy’s theme was “Fearproof.” ending the sessions with someone who was trying all her life to fearproof herself despite her disability was very moving. There was no dry eye in the room, indeed. Once again, for diversity, equity, and inclusion’s sake, thank you, Spikes Asia for not just “purpose telling” but elevating your festival to “purpose doing.” Jaime Ng Simon Cook https://lnkd.in/dfeepQD5

Over the past two days at Spikes Asia, I've been truly inspired by the wealth of insights shared by our speakers, as well as the incredible creative works on display. Among them all, one particular speech stood out to me the most - Francesca Atienza's. Francesca, a neurodivergent from The Misfits camp, shared her deep passion for creativity, her journey of overcoming fear and the unique challenges she faces. Despite her nervousness the night before, she made a remarkable effort to memorize her speech. Her speech inspired every person in the Spikes Academy room, making it the highlight of the event for me. This year, Spikes Asia had the honor of partnering with merlee jayme and The Misfits Camp, an organisation that trains creative individuals with neurodiverse and physical abilities. They served as our Creative Digital Partner for 2024, and let me tell you, the students' work blew us away! Additionally, we are proud to sponsor two students, Francesca and Luis (pictures of them below) to Spikes Asia. I was so engrossed in my conversation with them that I totally forgot to ask for a selfie 😞 Thank you, The Misfits camp for showing us the power of inclusivity and creativity! I can't wait to see what's next. Guan Hin Tay merlee jayme Olivia Fitton-Brown Charmaine G.
