It may officially be spring, but wintry weather is blanketing the U.S. with New England and California seeing a mix of rain, heavy snow and gusty winds. A winter storm warning remained in effect into Sunday morning for parts of the Sierra Nevada. A winter weather advisory was issued through Sunday night for parts of northern Arizona, where up to a half foot of snow is possible at upper elevations. Sunday should be sunny across New England but colder than usual. The storm in New England comes at the end of a winter season that saw little snow in some areas of the Northeast, including Boston. The National Weather Service also has warned of what it called a significant winter storm over central regions of the country through Monday.

Authorities in Northern California say a mountain lion killed one man and injured another while the two were out hunting for shed antlers. The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that an 18-year-old male called 911 around 1:30 p.m. Saturday. The man reported he and his 21-year-old brother had been out hunting for shed antlers when they were attacked. Deputies found the younger male with traumatic injuries to his face. They found the mountain lion crouched by the body of the older brother. State fish and wildlife wardens are searching for the mountain lion.

Are you “bike-curious?” Join other bike fans and friends at Napa Bikefest on May 5! I recently caught up with Kara Vernor, executive director of the Napa County Bicycle Coalition (NCBC), who tells us that Bikefest attendees will “learn a lot about biking, get in some practice, have fun and find some very inexpensive entry level used bikes.”

March 23 is National Puppy Day. To celebrate, we asked readers to send in photos of their pampered pups, so that we could salute the puppies (young and young-at-heart) of Napa County.

Ghost busting is still a good business. According to studio estimates Sunday, “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” collected $45.2 million in ticket sales over the weekend. That gave Sony Pictures its first No. 1 film since last summer. The opening weekend for “Frozen Empire” was nearly exactly the same as the 2021 launch for “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” which debuted with $44 million. The weekend’s other new wide release was “Immaculate.” The horror film stars Sydney Sweeney as an American nun at a remote Italian convent. The Neon release debuted with a modest $5.4 million. Though Sweeney’s ascending star power helped make “Anyone But You” one of the most successful rom-coms in years, “Immaculate” isn’t getting the same bounce.
