It makes sense that if your baby's having a growth spurt they'll want more milk. If you're breastfeeding, feed your baby whenever they seem hungry. They may go from feeding eight times a day to feeding between 12 times and 14 times a day during a growth spurt.

If you're formula-feeding, there's no need to change your baby's milk to "hungry baby milk". An extra bottle or so over a couple of days should see them through. If it is a growth spurt that's causing your baby's increase in appetite, it will usually only last a few days to a week or so, depending on your baby's age.

You may notice your baby wanting to feed at different times during the day and evening. In fact, it can be perfectly normal for their whole routine to go out of the window!

Try not to get overwhelmed or frustrated. Seek support from friends and family, rest when your baby rests, and hopefully things will settle down in a few days.

You may find that your baby wants to be carried or held all the time, and cries when they're put down.

Some experts suggest that growth spurts are often accompanied by developmental leaps, so your baby could be getting ready to surprise you with a new skill such as rolling or crawling!

In the meantime, offer your baby lots of cuddles to reassure and soothe them.

Fussing and crankiness is normal during a growth spurt. Your baby may fuss at the breast or seem hungry after their bottle. They may seem more irritable during the day and less likely to settle at night.

The good news is that this should pass in a few days, but if you're worried about your baby, speak to your health visitor or GP to set your mind at rest.

Growing is an exhausting business! Your baby's brain produces a protein called human growth hormone (HGH) while they sleep. So it's no wonder that your baby may need more sleep during a growth spurt.

You may find that your baby needs more naps during the day or sleeps longer at night. The best advice? Make the most of it!

Some babies, however, seem to need less sleep during a growth spurt. Your baby may wake up more at night or their daytime naps may shorten.

Try not to worry about your baby's routine during these challenging periods. The likelihood is that they'll return to their usual self in just a few days.

However, it's important not to weigh your baby too frequently. Experts recommend that babies between two weeks and six months are weighed once a month, and babies who are between six months and 12 months should be weighed once every two months.
