FEATURE: Enhanced Weathering Alliance (EWA) seeks EU certification for carbon removals This is a great article by Frédéric Simon (https://lnkd.in/gmqDAd7e) and you should absolutely subscribe to Carbon Pulse to access the full text! In the meantime, some highlights. 📰 Topline: “We want to know what are the rules for us to play the game because we know we'll do well!” 📣 What we're doing at EWA: “One of the things we’re working on is to help the European Commission develop a methodology for quantifying the carbon capture rate of EWR,” said Adam Wolf. “They want to know the science of the carbon capture for this to be a like-for-like substitution for fossil emissions over hundreds or thousands of years.” EWA is now drafting a technical report for the Commission, “so they have all the evidence they need when they decide to pick up the file”. ⏱ What we are after: “What is really hurting the industry is that there is no timeline for when these other methodologies are going to be developed,” said Sebastian Manhart. “Even if it's later, there should be some sort of timeline that we can plan with and hold the Commission accountable to.” 👩🌾 Why we are passionate advocates for ERW: “ERW easily has the potential to double profit for farmers – whether it’s through a direct payment, a cost subsidy, or a price premium” said Wolf Want to know more? Climate Advocate | Policy @ Carbonfuture | Founder @ CDRjobs | Chair @ DVNE | Ex-Merkel, World Bank, Tech Entrepreneur | UCL-Cambridge-Harvard 🇩🇪🇪🇺🇮🇹

📣 🇪🇺 Calling for tech-openness in the CRCF 🇪🇺 📣 📅 Tomorrow, European negotiators will be meeting for the next #Trilogue of the Carbon Removal Certification Framework (#CRCF) - potentially the most important piece of carbon dioxide removal (#CDR) legislation in the world right now. 💡 Only an approach open to all CDR technologies will enable Europe to achieve its #netzero target. ❗At present, there are positions held by numerous negotiators that would de facto exclude a large amount of promising CDR approaches. 🔊 For this reason, we need to make our voices heard - louder than ever. 💪 An astounding 350 companies - including Carbonfuture, Deutscher Verband für negative Emissionen e.V. (DVNE), and US Biochar Coalition (USBC) - have signed a public letter calling for tech-openness in the CRCF, including the specific changes we need. The signatories span the entire CDR industry (and beyond), from startups to large multinationals.   🤝 Action now can have an outsized impact. Help us spread the word and make sure that negotiators are crystal clear on the position of the CDR industry. 📜 Link to the letter: https://lnkd.in/dSTUJN7p

📣 This is a call to action. We need your help! As you might have followed, the Carbon Removal Certification Framework (#CRCF) - potentially the most important piece of #CDR legislation in the world right now - has entered its final negotiation stage, the #Trilogues. 🛠️ There are still several aspects of the current positions which would prevent a portfolio approach and #techneutrality, de facto excluding a large amount of CDR technologies and reducing the EU´s chances to reach net-zero. 🔊 For this reason, we need to put our argument in front of policy makers now - louder than ever. 💪 77 companies - including Everest Carbon - have already signed a public letter calling for tech-openness in the CRCF. Our goal is to get 100 companies to sign on before the end of the week to put it on CRCF negotiators´ desks on Monday. 🌎 Any organisation or company working in or on CDR can sign the letter. You don´t have to be European either. This is a global call to action to ensure a cornerstone legislation remains tech-neutral. 🤝 Action now can have an outsized impact. Do get in touch if you have any questions and hope to count on many of you for this big advocacy push! 📜 Link to the letter: https://lnkd.in/gTFn2zdA ✍️ Link to the form to become a signatory: https://lnkd.in/gYiqb6Ws

Removing CO2 from the atmosphere at scale with Everest Carbon

📢 Announcing the Reykjavik Protocol to reduce risk and streamline the scaling of nature-deployed carbon removal solutions 📢 While nature-deployed Carbon Dioxide Removal methods like Enhanced Weathering piggyback on existing planetary processes to be particularly cost-effective and scalable, their open-system nature introduces some fundamental uncertainties. 🤝 Today marks a big day forward as the majority of the industry comes together to agree on and sign the Reykjavik Protocol, a set of best practices for the generation of nature-deployed environmental credits. We are proud to be one of the 40+ founding signatories to the protocol and look forward to the momentum this will create! Read the rest of the protocol at www.reykjavik-protocol.com Press release: https://lnkd.in/dGH-q-Rf
