WSP’s partnership with Bridges to Prosperity began in 2010, providing volunteer design and construction services to establish rural last-mile connections via pedestrian bridges. This fall, WSP in the U.S. will send two teams of volunteers to Rwanda, complementing a third WSP global team in 2024. Goodbye August, hello September. Post Labor Day, as summer vacation winds down and school starts back in session, we're thinking about how people move about their cities and towns safely, efficiently and equitably, and what that may look like in the future. As such, in this edition of "Future Ready Features," we look at advanced air mobility, protecting our critical bridges, introducing vehicle automation to public transit, and infrastructure that connects - or reconnects - communities. #Infrastructure #Transportation #Transit #Equity #Resilience #FutureReady #WeAreWSP

What if you could work alongside industry experts on impactful projects? With us, you can. This summer wraps up WSP’s tenth year supporting the Michigan Department of Transportation’s (MDOT) Diversity Recruitment Program (TDRP) that recruits students from Historic Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) into transportation career opportunities. TDRP interns either work directly for MDOT or one of its ACEC partner agencies. We were proud to host three TDRP participants over the 2024 summer internship program. WSP’s internship program fosters growth, learning and innovation, making it an exciting place for budding professionals to begin their careers. Vital for addressing growing energy demands, hydropower is an efficient and reliable method of storing and generating electricity. Known as America’s first source of renewable electricity, hydropower has been used to generate electricity since the 1880’s. Today, more than 6% of our national electricity comes from hydropower. Existing U.S. hydropower facilities could help bring up to 137 gigawatts of new wind and solar online by 2035. Pumped storage is one of the most dominant forms of energy storage on the electric grid today. By leveraging gravity, pumped storage hydropower provides a dependable and flexible energy storage solution to meet sudden demand spikes or compensate for fluctuations in renewable energy sources like wind and solar power. On National Hydropower Day, WSP explores how hydropower supports a reliable electric grid and cleaner communities with a solution that pushes forward the clean energy transition. Together we can innovate how energy is transformed, moved and used: https://lnkd.in/gH2SZGEK #WeAreWSP #HydroDay #HydroPowers #EnergyInTransition #CleanEnergy #Energy

Endeavoring to balance the tension and interplay between built and natural environments — their impacts on, and to, the other — is one way we can help sustain health and harmony in our world. This is particularly important in how we develop the resources we need as a society, while ensuring the protection of our precious ecology. In this edition of “Future Ready Features,” we look at helping wind power and wildlife coexist, protecting streams from rapid urbanization, mitigating the impacts of coal combustion products on groundwater and using dredged material from waterways to support wetland restoration. #Environment #Ecology #Energy #FutureReady #WeAreWSP
