At Cuberg, we’re building batteries for a brighter, more sustainable future. We know batteries will be key, but we also want to build a battery industry that benefits from far greater representation of women than we see today. Taking an opportunity to reflect on where we are and what we can do to accelerate that future, we marked International Women’s Day on Friday with a panel discussion at our office. Leading the discussion were Shauna McIntyre (Cuberg CEO), Arielle Ring (CFO), Anne Torricelli (Head of Business Development), Olivia Risset (Head of Supply Chain), Asma Sharafi (Staff Engineer, Cell Mechanical Design), and Hannah Lundeen (Senior Workforce Development Specialist).

Congratulations to the entire Northvolt team for achieving this tremendous milestone.

I'm excited to share that in January I joined Cuberg, the high-performance battery subsidiary of Northvolt, as its first CFO. Northvolt is creating the world's greenest battery and is the Western champion of battery manufacturing. Cuberg leverages the manufacturing capabilities and supply chain infrastructure Northvolt has built for lithium ion to bring to market the world's highest performance battery. Our li-metal battery systems will electrify some of the hardest to abate mobility applications, including aviation. Yesterday, we had the privilege of hosting US Department of Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm, California Energy Commission Chair David Hochschild, and our local congresswoman Barbara Lee to cut the ribbon on our pilot manufacturing line.

Cuberg's new CEO, Shauna McIntyre was introduced today by Northvolt CEO and Co-Founder Peter Carlsson during a ribbon-cutting event for the opening of a new facility for the development of next-generation lithium-metal battery technologies in the Bay Area. We were honoured to have the new facility inaugurated by Jennifer Granholm, U.S. Secretary of Energy, who provided a keynote address, alongside David Hochschild, Chair of the California Energy Commission and Congresswoman Barbara Lee of California’s 12th District. Shauna commented: “Northvolt is a pioneer in its approach, bringing the necessary combination of speed, scale and sustainability to the battery industry. I am honored to join the company and take on the leadership of Cuberg. I look forward to working with the employees of Cuberg in driving the development of lithium-metal technology towards fulfilling its enormous potential. The facility inaugurated today will play a key role in that future, and in enabling new frontiers of electrification with next-generation battery technology.”

Cuberg Founder and CEO Richard Wang spoke at the BloombergNEF Summit in San Francisco this January as part of a plenary moderated by Takehiro Kawahara. https://lnkd.in/gbj4sK-x Richard treated the audience to an exclusive reveal of performance metrics from an upcoming validation report of Cuberg’s #evtol Battery Module. Cuberg’s Module has achieved an externally validated specific energy of at least 270 Wh/kg, which massively expands the possible flight range of a typical 7,000 lb eVTOL. Cuberg has joined the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) to accelerate the commercialization of electric #aviation. Richard Wang, Cuberg's Founder and CEO, comments: "The shift to electric propulsion is the most profound technological change in aviation since the invention of the turbine engine. GAMA, in their role as industry convener and facilitator, will help ensure that this transition is safe for pilots and passengers by building on their deep experience dating back to 1970. A few key points: - Advanced lithium metal batteries play a critical role in the success of electric aviation, and they are ready to deploy into vehicles today - not 5 years in the future - Cuberg's high specific energy (270 Wh/kg with stable cycling already demonstrated today) doubles operational flight range, greatly increasing addressable markets and profitability for operators - Our strategic relationships with Northvolt and Safran amplify our ability to scale manufacturing and deliver certifiable solutions in aviation and beyond

It was great fun to return to Stanford University with the California Energy Commission for the Stanford-CEC Energy Innovation Summit. Both institutions are near and dear to my heart, as they have been central to the success of Cuberg and to my personal journey as a scientist and entrepreneur. Thank you to David Hochschild for the invitation to speak at the event and to Yi Cui, my PhD advisor, for facilitating a stimulating discussion around the excitement and challenges of scaling battery technology.
