DRDP Implementation in TK and K: Expanded Requirements for Fall 2024 https://lnkd.in/gHnHhGwh The Desired Results Access Project provides the following information regarding the changes to the DRDP requirements in response to the policy from the California Department of Education (CDE) Special Education Division (SED), "Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP) Administration Guidance" (3-15-2024). These changes will take effect starting with the fall 2024 assessment period. The DRDP is required for all children birth to three with IFSPs receiving services from Local Education Agencies (LEAs) and children 3 through 5 years of age with IEPs. Eligibility requirements for Children in Early Intervention, Preschool and TK: Infants and Toddlers Any infant or toddler receiving services from an LEA with a signed IFSP and receiving special education services must be assessed within the first 60 days of services up until: - November 1 for inclusion in the fall assessment - April 1 for inclusion in the spring assessment The DRDP Infant/Toddler Comprehensive View should be used with all infants and toddlers. https://lnkd.in/gG9Pjxwx Preschool/TK/K Any child enrolled in preschool, TK, and K who is 3, 4, or 5-years old, has a signed IEP, and is receiving special education services must be assessed within the first 60 days of services up until: - November 1 for inclusion in the fall assessment - April 1 for inclusion in the spring assessment If the child turns 6 at any point during the school year, the DRDP is not required. For example, if a child turns 6 in October, a DRDP is NOT required. The DRDP Preschool Fundamental View should be used with all 3, 4, and 5-year olds. https://lnkd.in/gC3BPUUH Training for Special Educators The CDE SED requires training for special educators using the DRDP. SELPAs are responsible for ensuring that all special educators who administer the DRDP complete training. Special educators access courses at DR Access Learn (https://draccesslearn.org) and are encouraged to complete training prior to assessing. However, special educators mustassess eligible children even if they have not yet completed the required courses. Additional resources, including brief tutorials, assessment supports, recorded webinars, and helpful videos, are found on the Desired Results Access Project's website: https://draccess.org Data Submission SELPAs will continue to submit all DRDP data to DR Access Data (https://draccessdata.org) with no change to current due dates: - By February 1 for the fall assessment - By July 1 for the spring assessment Join us for a webinar to review these guidelines, as well as discuss any questions. New exciting announcement of cross-agency collaboration between the California Department of Developmental Services and Cradle-to-Career Data System: https://lnkd.in/gWahcWWk *California Leaders Break Down Silos Across Departments in Health, Education, and Workforce to Bring Holistic Solutions* This week, the Office of Cradle-to-Career Data’s (C2C) Governing Board approved adding the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) as a new data partner. https://www.dds.ca.gov **DDS’ information will provide key insights into the lives of Californians living with a developmental disability. The vote signals California’s commitment to providing holistic and equitable solutions for the state’s residents - no matter their ability, socio-economic status, or background.** "People receiving Developmental Services deserve to have their journeys visible and understood. We're bringing the data together that illuminates the unique needs and key milestones for Californians with a developmental disability,” said Mary Ann Bates, Executive Director at the Office of Cradle-to-Career. "Early intervention and education programs can set children with intellectual and developmental disabilities up for lifelong success, and we want every family that needs support to have equitable access to these services,” said Nancy Bargmann, Director at the Department of Developmental Services. “This partnership with C2C and CalHHS will be an important step in informing DDS initiatives designed to transform how individuals and families get connected to the supports and services they need.” “We are thrilled at this new partnership so that the developmental services systems can more fully understand the story of the people we serve and so that all Californians with developmental disabilities can share their gifts and talents in careers of their choice,” said Victor Duron, Chief Deputy Director at the Department of Rehabilitation and Project Manager for the Master Plan on Developmental Services. #DDS #California #data #disability #education #inclusion #equity #development #developmentalservices

Preview content now available of updates to Preschool / Transitional Kindergarten Learning Foundations (PTKLF) https://lnkd.in/gBTZQZBb The California Department of Education (CDE), in partnership with WestEd, has been updating the Preschool Learning Foundations, now called the Preschool / Transitional Kindergarten Learning Foundations (PTKLF). As the state’s learning standards for early education programs, the PTKLF describe the knowledge and skills children ages three to five and a half can achieve in a high-quality early education program. The updates reflect recent research in the field, and a greater emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion. The CDE plans to release the PTKLF publication this summer 2024. In the past few months, the CDE received several inquiries about having earlier access to these foundations to plan specifically for math and language/literacy instruction in Universal PreKindergarten (UPK) programs for the 2024–25 school year, which requires more preparation and planning. In response to these requests, the CDE is releasing content that shows the “Early” and “Later” foundation statements for Math and Language & Literacy (see below). While further information is provided in the below content, please note this is only a subset of the information available in the full PTKLF publication that will be released this summer, which will include child examples and educator support sections. As such, we advise that the attached document only be used until the full publication is available, especially as it relates to applying these foundation statements in a developmentally appropriate way. For a high-level overview of the changes to the PTKLF, including a recorded webinar, please see the CDE’s PTKLF web page: https://lnkd.in/gBTZQZBb. A recorded webinar introducing these revisions at a high level can be found on CDE YouTube: https://lnkd.in/gwEfUzSs
