WordPress does not respect hierarchy when you add multiple items to a menu

Description

When you are in /wp-admin/nav-menus.php
and you select multiple categories
and you click "Add to menu"
The categories will be added but without their hierarchy. Instead they will all be added as top level menu items.

Thanks for the report, we're already tracking this issue in #18282 and #19837.

The first ticket has a plugin to work around the issue until it's fixed: comment:25:ticket:18282.

Another workaround is also suggested in the description of ticket #47639.

I am not sure that this is the exact same issue. I am not talking about the display of the hierarchy at the box on the left but about the fact that when you click the Add to menu button it wont add them with hierarchy. The "fix" plugin does not work in this case.

Indeed, thanks for pointing that out! Looks like I misread the ticket description.

The issue with keeping hierarchy when adding items to a menu is tracked in #18271, let's continue the discussion there.
