    Israel's United Nations ambassador displayed a yellow star on his chest Monday as he addressed the Security Council, provocatively pledging to wear the badge until members of the body condemn Hamas "atrocities".

    Faculty at all 23 campuses of the California State University system have voted to authorize a strike. They're demanding a new contract with higher salaries, lower class sizes and more manageable workloads. The California Faculty Association represents 29,000 lecturers, librarians, counselors and other employees. The union said in a statement Monday that members authorized a walkout in a 95% vote. A strike is not a sure thing. The union’s demands will be presented to the university’s chancellor on Nov. 7, and negotiations will continue from there. The university system said in a statement that it hopes a walkout can be avoided.

    Robert De Niro lashed out in a New York courtroom against a former executive assistant and vice president who is seeking millions of dollars after accusing her former boss of being abusive. De Niro returned to the witness stand for a second day Tuesday in his fight against the former assistant, Graham Chase Robinson. His anger seemed to build up over several hours of questions by her lawyer until he finally exploded with anger, glaring at her as he shouted: “Shame on you, Chase Robinson!” He quickly apologized for the outburst.

    FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried has undergone a final barrage of questions from a prosecutor aimed at showing that he's not being honest about how $8 billion of his customers' funds disappeared, setting the stage for final arguments. Those are set to take place Wednesday in Manhattan federal court. Prosecutor Danielle Sassoon finished her cross examination on Tuesday of the man who was riding high on the cryptocurrency wave until his businesses collapsed last year. Bankman-Fried insisted through four days on the witness stand that he didn't know about the billions missing from his companies until days before they entered bankruptcy proceedings.

    Firefighters aided by aircraft are battling to contain a wind-driven wildfire that has damaged or destroyed at least nine buildings in rural Southern California and forced authorities to issue evacuation orders for 4,000 residents. The Highland Fire is burning Tuesday near the Riverside County hamlet of Aguanga after breaking out Monday and being spread by gusty Santa Ana winds over 3.5 square miles of brushy hills. Fire spokesman Jeff LaRusso says about 1,300 homes are under evacuation orders. So far, no injuries are reported but three structures are confirmed destroyed and six others have been damaged.
