OPINION: NAPARC Inc. wants to open a retail cannabis store. We should think twice about making cannabis so readily available to teens. We have been duped by the cannabis industry. Today's cannabis is not the weed of yesteryear.
OPINION: I want to take this end of the year opportunity to appreciate the work of Napa Valley Register Editor Dan Evans and his intelligent hard working staff.
OPINION: The Holiday Season is a perfect opportunity to thank George Altamura and the board of directors of Hands Across the Valley for once again generously funding Napa County’s safety net food programs. These programs provide services to the most vulnerable residents in the county.
OPINION: While gathering around a fireplace may be a holiday tradition for some, the unfortunate reality is that wood smoke is made up of pollutants that can harm your family’s lungs. During the winter, wood smoke is the greatest source of air pollution in the Bay Area.
OPINION: I am writing to you in support of Amber Manfree who is running for Napa County Supervisor in District 4. The time for change is long overdue and Amber is the woman for the job. I agree with so many of her positions on important issues, it is hard to choose just one or two to talk about.
OPINION: Why would the county superintendent actively work against the Napa Unified Unified School District?
OPINION: I find is especially insulting to be accused of racism when reacting only to the truth about an elected official’s potential corruption and violation of the public trust.
OPINION:Who’s minding the till? Does Napa County have endless funds to pay for outside lawyers?
OPINION: As the sanctuary director of Charlie's Acres Farm Animal Sanctuary, I respond daily to rehoming requests for potbellied pigs. These "micro pigs" became popular following a trend of misleading internet videos depicting them as adorable teacup-sized pets. The reality, however, is that these pigs grow larger than often advertised, reaching full size at five years old.
OPINION: Why isn't the Christmas tree in downtown Napa lit up at night? For the second year in a row, a family night downtown ended in disappointment when we walked out kids to check out the tree by the riverfront only to find it not lit up on a Friday night. So disappointed in Napa, never has it been more apparent that local residents and kids do not matter to the city.
OPINION: We write with sheer admiration and enthusiasm to extend heartfelt congratulations to the recipients of the Hilary Zunin CanDo Spirit Award and its inaugural Honorable Mention awardees.
OPINION: Thank you for providing Napa with creativity, laughter, tears, and some totally awesome acting this season and throughout the year! We are lucky to live in a community that supports the arts and that the arts in turn offer us all an escape into a story for an evening.
OPINION: It's election time and I am voting for incumbent Belia Ramos for District 5 supervisor. Belia has represented her district and the county of Napa effectively and in a well-balanced way.
OPINION: I find Moms For Liberty's views on my sisters and brothers to be loathsome to me, personally, but I do stand with Moms For Liberty in their recent lawsuit against the Yolo County Library in Davis, as covered by the Sacramento Bee, which alleges that their freedom of speech has been violated.
OPINION: Our chance to vote for the next Napa County Board of Supervisors, District 4, is just around the corner, and I think Amber Manfree is a great candidate to represent my district. Her approach to the challenges we're facing in Napa is not only comprehensive but also forward-thinking, and that's exactly what we need.
OPINION: Operation: With Love from Home, spearheaded by a group of local volunteers, is accepting donations of cash and merchandise to stock special care packages for troops all around the world. Since there is no cost to troops, Operation: With Love from Home relies on the community for support.
OPINION: I am shocked by Executive Editor Dan Evans' assessment of the difference in people’s reactions to the decisions of two supervisors, Alfredo Pedroza and Ryan Gregory, to not run for State Senate (Pedroza) or a third term on the Board of Supervisors (Gregory). Although there are similarities in their stated reasons (family issues) for not running, there is a significant difference.
OPINION: When did you last meet a candidate for public office who had no hidden agenda (read, potential conflicts of interest or higher political aspirations)? Well you are meeting one in Amber Manfree. She is a fifth generation Napan with a deep love for what has made the Napa Valley the Napa Valley.
OPINION: The Community Leaders Coalition (CLC), a group of nonpartisan community leaders, is thrilled to announce the appointment of Michele Grupe as the new director of the organization. With an exceptional background in community development and a passion for fostering inclusive and impactful initiatives, Grupe brings a wealth of experience to CLC.
OPINION: It has been a few weeks since we turned the clocks back one hour! I wonder why we are not letting the time change one minute each day instead of a sudden change all at once? Let the sun change the time. Please stop messing with Mother Nature!
OPINION: Signature gatherers are in front of American Canyon's Safeway, Walmart and walking neighborhoods in hopes of getting 1400 people to sign on to an initiative that would allow more warehouses to be built at a faster pace. If all goes as planned by Sacramento-based warehouse developer Buzz Oates, Measure K will be on next November's ballot and if passed, will upend current environmental safeguards and streamline their building of 2.4 million square feet of warehouses on 208 acres off of Devlin Rd.
OPINION: The Friends of the Napa Library are thrilled to host our annual December holiday book sale, a much-anticipated event for readers of all ages. This year, the sale will run from Dec. 9 to Dec. 17, offering a unique opportunity for our community to explore a treasure trove of books.

OPINION: We are so fortunate to have Cal Fire here for us, responding so quickly to an issue as simple as falling and unable to get up after a bout of food poisoning.
OPINION: As you undoubtedly have heard by now, according to reports from television, newspapers and legislators, “a mysterious group of investors,” now identified as the Flannery Associates, who used a Delaware LLC, to keep their identity hidden from the public, “is backed by a cadre of billionaire tech investors from Silicon Valley, … and intend to override the local zoning that protects Travis Air Force Base, farmers, and the wind industry to build a Megacity east of Fairfield.”
OPINION: Napa Bocce Association has been around for decades, providing fun and occasional glory for its legions of participants. The league has room for more teams or individual players.
OPINION: Regarding the Napa County Facilities Master Plan, the future of these county buildings will affect every citizen in our county for many years.
OPINION: For several reasons, it was sad to read Linda Bolin’s response (“The Focus should be Biden, not Trump,” Nov. 16) to my earlier letter (“Trump University lives”). Okay, it was sad for more than several reasons, but I’m working with a word limit here.
OPINION: No, Randy Dunn (as he stated in a recent letter to the editor), Le Colline is not owned by an “ill-advised land speculator.” Actually, Kathleen and I are a husband-and-wife team with a 30-year history here in Napa Valley.
OPINION: If you’re paying attention, the past can inform the present. Let’s hope the people of this country are paying attention.
OPINION: This is in response to the letter written by Linda Bolin stating that the focus should not be on Trump but on Biden. Scandals of long ago (Trumps) are still with us — he is in a trial in New York right now regarding his financial shenanigans. Hunter Biden's problems are his own, not the president's.
