Joseph Jacques (born March 11, 1995) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Boston Red Sox of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut in 2023.

Early life[edit]

Jacques is from Shrewsbury, New Jersey.[1] He attended Red Bank Regional High School and Manhattan College, where he played college baseball for the Manhattan Jaspers,[2] joining the team as a walk-on.[3] He also played collegiate summer baseball during 2016 in the New England Collegiate Baseball League.[2] Jacques graduated from Manhattan College in 2018.[4]

Career[edit]

Pittsburgh Pirates[edit]

The Pittsburgh Pirates selected Jacques in the 33rd round of the 2018 MLB draft.[3] He played in the Pirates' farm system from 2018 through 2022, except for 2020 due to cancellation of that minor-league season.[2] He reached Double-A in 2019 with the Altoona Curve, and Triple-A in 2021 with the Indianapolis Indians.[2]

Boston Red Sox[edit]

On December 7, 2022, the Boston Red Sox selected Jacques from the Pirates in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 draft.[5] He began the 2023 season in Triple-A with the Worcester Red Sox.[1][2] The Red Sox promoted Jacques to the major leagues on June 9, 2023.[6][7] He made his major league debut on June 12,[8] earned his first major-league win on June 16,[9] and earned his first major-league save on July 2.[10] Jacques was optioned back to Worcester on July 29,[11] recalled to Boston on August 29,[12] and returned to Worcester on September 10.[13]
