We can do great things when we stand together. As part of our purpose to care for people on life’s journey, our #AATeam is helping Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) celebrate its 15th anniversary and raise funds for innovative and life-saving cancer research. #StandUpToCancer is closer than they’ve ever been before to making every cancer patient a long-term cancer survivor. Since joining forces in 2016, we’ve raised more than $17.5 million to benefit SU2C to care for people on one of life’s most difficult journeys. Through Sept. 30, you can #StandUp with American and earn AAdvantage® bonus miles. https://bit.ly/3LzykiW Terms and conditions apply.

Meet #AATeam member Mary Sue Cordova, the Compliance Coordinator at Miami International Airport (MIA), who has a true passion for aviation. Born in Michigan and raised all over Latin America, Mary Sue’s mom, Paulina, charted a career course for the family when she started working at American Airlines in 1992. Dad, Gonzalo, hopped on board shortly after. 🌎✈️ Now, this dynamic trio works together at MIA: Mom’s a Premium Guest Services Agent in the Admirals Club, while dad’s the go-to guy in Tech Ops, helping mechanics find the right parts and tools for the job. Mary Sue has a passion for celebrating diversity, as well. She was born in Chile and moved to Miami when she was 5 years old, where she shared her upbringing with a melting pot of cultures in one of the most diverse cities in the United States. She’s the vice president of the MIA chapter of American’s Latin Diversity Network Employee Business Resource Group, where she leads team members in celebrating their heritage. 🎉 “There is so much rich diversity in being Hispanic/Latino, and, through the EBRG, we’re able to come together to connect in our experiences and support our community,” Mary Sue said. Mary Sue proudly represents Chilean heritage and visits often through her travel benefits to stay connected to her roots and family back home. #HispanicHeritageMonth ❤️

Today and every day, we celebrate the cultural diversity of our #AATeam members, who make our airline more inclusive for all. Capt. Esteban Arcila is just one inspiration. 🌟✈️ Born and raised in Colombia, Capt. Arcila’s adventures began at the early age of seven, right at the airport where his mother worked. After immigrating to the United States and living only minutes from Miami International Airport, he’d spend his days watching American Airlines planes soar through the skies and dreamt of the possibility of becoming a pilot. 🧑✈️ At the time, his dreams felt far out of reach with financial headwinds, so Esteban worked several jobs while attending college full-time and building flight hours. Down the road, Esteban began at Piedmont Airlines as a first officer while supporting pilot recruiting before accepting a position with #AmericanAirlines. 🎉 Today, Esteban is a member of the Latino Pilots Association (LPA) in hopes of mentoring, guiding and supporting rising Latino aviators on their journeys. “Most of us come from humble beginnings. I know how hard it is to start out and feel like you’re the only one. I wish I had someone to help me on my path, so I’m now a mentor that loves to give back to the community,” Esteban said. “If I was able to do it, I know anyone can.” ❤️💙 #AATeam #HispanicHeritageMonth

A (jet)blast from the past! ✈️ Two Airbus A321 aircraft painted in heritage Piedmont Airlines and PSA Airlines liveries emerged from the paint booth this week, and they’re giving us some serious #ThrowbackThursday vibes. 😍 Did you know we have 10 heritage livery aircraft in our fleet? We will always remember our colleagues, family members and loved ones we lost 22 years ago. Pictured is a special flag displayed in American Airlines CR Smith Museum, Texas, that was fabricated just days following Sept. 11 and flown on American Airlines flights around the country, and even Europe, in the weeks following. Passed from crew to crew, it embodied the strength of our team in the wake of tragedy and, to this day, remains a remembrance of the solidarity and compassion that took place between team members, the traveling public and our nation.
