Max, Warner Bros. Discovery’s bulked-up and revamped streaming service that takes the place of HBO Max, makes it U.S. debut on Wednesday (May 23). Max makes several subtle enhancements aimed at making the service easier to use and more engaging — while execs say it should also be more stable than HBO Max.
According to the company, a “large portion” of HBO Max subscribers will have their apps automatically updated to Max — while in some cases, users will be prompted to download an updated Max app. If all goes as planned, HBO Max subscribers will have their previous plan, profiles,...

Jeopardy! Masters tried its best to keep things interesting for viewers. The mega-tournament introduced a new format for Daily Doubles, allowing viewers at home to see where the multipliers were on the board before each round. It was a noble attempt at engaging audiences more, keeping them on their toes as the current Jeopardy! champions moved closer or further away from each during crucial moments in the game. But ultimately, it didn’t solve one of the tournament's biggest problems: Everyone competing is very, very good at trivia.

[Editor’s Note: This post contains spoilers for Survivor Season 44, Episode 13, "Absolute Banger Season."]
Was Season 44 of Survivor, as juror Matt described it in tonight's finale, an "absolute banger season"? It was a season that presented its fair share of frustration for longtime fans. Once again, women were overwhelmingly the targets to be voted out in the early stages of the game. Once again, there seemed to be an overload of idols and advantages flooding the game. This season saw more fake immunity idols injected into the game as well. Injuries — not always in production's control, of course — played a part in two premature eliminations from the game.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the Survivor Season 44 finale, “Absolute Banger Season.”] The Survivor Season 44 finale title was right: this was an “absolute banger” of a season. The Survivor 44 winner was revealed in the three-hour finale on Wednesday, May 24, on CBS, and it was a hard-fought, 26-day battle for all. With one of the most charismatic, entertaining, and savvy group of players Survivor‘s ever put together — and by finally hitting its stride with the shortened format — Season 44 will surely go down as one of the franchise’s greats. Heading into the finale, the Tika Three alliance seemed primed to be the final three, even with the cracks beginning to show in their trust in each other. Since the merge, the Survivor 44 cast had been battling this Carolyn, Yam Yam, and Carson trio. After their original tribe was sent to tribal council night after night, struggling to pull out any challenge wins, the savvy strategizing from this trio ...

It wouldn’t be a Chicago Fire season finale without a romantic declaration and a life-or-death cliffhanger, and Wednesday’s episode more than delivered on both of those fronts.
Stella tells Violet and Brett that she talked with Severide, but their conversation was far from reassuring. According to her, Severide said the Atf gig came up too suddenly to notify Stella about it, but he insisted that it was no big deal. For Stella, everything Severide said was so vague, including how the new job affects when he comes home.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Married at First Sight Season 16, Episode 21, “The Final Decision.”] Married at First Sight‘s social experiment is nearly over for the couples of Season 16, and after last week’s cliffhanger ending, one big question remains in the latest installment, “The Final Decision,” which is, what happened to Shaquille and Kirsten? They were the only couple whose decision wasn’t revealed by the installment’s end, leaving viewers waiting until the beginning of this week’s episode. As fans will recall, Nicole and Chris, Airris and Jasmine, and Gina and Clint all sat with the experts Dr. Pepper Schwartz and Pastor Cal to reveal their Decision Day choices. Among those three, only Nicole and Chris decided to give their marriage a shot, opting to stay together, whereas Jasmine and Airris, and Gina and Clint called it quits, quite amicably. Oh, and things are going well with Dylan, Brett tells Kidd. However, when she tells Casey what she’s hoping to do and he asks if Dylan’s part of it, she’s quick to say “no,” that though he is supportive, it’s all her. [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Chicago Med Season 8 finale “Does One Door Close and Another One Open?”] The promo for the Chicago Med Season 8 finale teased “someone will go,” but how? Does someone else decide it’s time to leave the hospital, because of the recent changes or another reason? The finale foreshadows all of these possibilities. Just as Dayton (Sasha Roiz) is ready to show off what the new Or can do with his own hernia repair, Will (Nick Gehlfuss) and Grace (TV Carpio) discover the system created a lesion as a misguided attempt to help him with a patient who died. [Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the Jeopardy! Masters finale.] Jeopardy! Masters has named its first champion! The adrenaline ran high as finalists James Holzhauer, Matt Amodio, and Mattea Roach raced for the Daily Doubles, often betting it all (and succeeding) when found. Crowd reactions were abound as the players whipped through the categories, knocking out two full games in the episode. The tournament final, as Ken Jennings said in reference to Alex Trebek, “is a two-game, total-point affair,” meaning the player with the highest combined score would take home the inaugural Trebek Trophy. James started game one on a high note: He found the one Daily Double right out of the gate. He answered incorrectly, however, sinking his score from zero to -1,000. The game was fast-paced and filled with playful jabs between the players, who were clearly feeling the high-stakes thrill of being in the finals (in addition to a $500,000 grand prize, Jeopardy! would also donate to ...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the May 24 episode of Jeopardy!] May 24, 2023 marked the first game of Jeopardy! following the end of Ben Chan’s recording-breaking, nine-episode streak. Returning champ Lynn Di Vito went up against Ed Petersen and Joyce Sun in the episode, which aired just before the finale of Jeopardy! Masters. Following the episode, fans of the game show remarked on the number of clues left on the board in the rounds, a result of a slower-paced game but not an entirely unheard of outcome. Lynn, a retired museum educator from Colorado Springs, Colorado, came into the episode with $11,800 in winnings. Ed is a planning technician from Orlando, Florida, and Joyce is a retired lawyer from Bloomfield, New Jersey (whom you might recognize from a 1960s Pampers commercial). Their pacing was slower than what fans see in Jeopardy! Masters, which led to some leftover clues on the board in each round (though not a shocking amount). One ...

Tributes to the late, great Tina Turner are flooding in after the news of her death. The queen of rock ‘n’ roll died at the age of 83 after a long illness, her spokesperson, Bernard Doherty, announced on May 24. She died at her home in Küsnacht near Zurich, Switzerland. “With her, the world loses a music legend and role model,” Doherty. That, it does. In honor of her legendary life, celebrities are sharing loving words about “The Best” singer. Angela Bassett‘s tribute is one of the most poignant, as she played the Grammy-winning music icon in the 1993 film What’s Love Got to Do With It. She garnered widespread critical acclaim (including an Oscar nomination) for her compelling and what would become a career-defining performance. In April 2023, Turner sang Bassett’s praises when writing her submission for the Time 100 Most Influential People 2023 edition. “You honored me, and you’re still perfect,...

We wish we could say it’s something happy or romantic that has Matt Casey back in the Windy City during tonight’s Chicago Fire season finale (NBC, 9/8c), but unfortunately, it’s far more ominous than that.
In TVLine’s exclusive sneak peek from the episode, Casey calls his pal Stella, who has found an “extremely destructive” bullet that indicates that there may be a larger threat to the city. “Prehistoric Planet” is back on Apple TV+ with over two dozen new extinct species to explore. Given the amount of dinosaurs and birds, the biggest challenge for supervising sound editor Jonny Crew was “capturing those prehistoric sounds.”
Without a library of extinct sounds to pull from, Crew, who also worked on the first season, says the trickiest task was distinguishing the sounds of different birds. That’s where chickens helped crack an important moment in the show’s first episode, titled “Islands,” in which audiences are exposed to the behavior of the Hatzegopteryx, a stork-like reptile. A key scene focused on two dinosaurs mating.

During an appearance on this week’s “Just for Variety” podcast, the actor tells me that an on-set therapist was on hand to offer help after the show received racist backlash against its inclusive and diverse casting. “You need support when this happens because the voices are so loud and they’re coming at you from so many places,” Córdova says.
Córdova, who was shooting Season 2 in the U.

As a reality cooking competition, Netflix’s Barbecue Showdown is perfectly adequate, but as a cultural statement, it’s unmissable. The show’s second season once again uses smoked brisket and pulled pork as the backdrop to a good-natured but significant rebuke to classism, ageism, and regionalism. It presents the barbecue pit as the great equalizer where everyone can belong.

Over the course of Season 23 of The Voice, a big deal was made of the fact that Team Niall Horan’s Gina Miles was, as Jerry Seinfeld would have called her, a low talker. But Zooming with TVLine about her victory, the effervescent 19-year-old could be heard loudly and clearly — a good thing, too, because she had a lot to say about everything from the debunked theory that retiring coach Blake Shelton had to win to which performance she thought was her standout.
