We are looking for detail-oriented, organized, and responsible individuals who are eager to learn how to work with large and complicated data sets. Some knowledge of econometrics, as well as basic familiarity with Python is necessary, and experience with SQL and UNIX would be a plus. These are full-time positions at 40 hours per week, with compensation being awarded on an hourly basis. You will learn how to build data sets and perform applied econometric analysis at Internet speed collaborating with economists, scientists, and product managers. These skills will translate well into writing applied chapters in your dissertation and provide you with work experience that may help you with placement. Key job responsibilities As an applied scientist on our team, you will apply the appropriate technologies and best practices to autonomously solve difficult problems. You'll contribute to the science solution design, run experiments, research new algorithms, and find new ways of optimizing customer experience. Besides theoretical analysis and innovation, you will work closely with talented engineers and ML scientists to put your algorithms and models into practice. You will collaborate with partner teams including engineering, PMs, data annotators, and other scientists to discuss data quality, policy, and model development. As an Applied Scientist, you’ll be accountable for designing, modeling, developing and implementing state-of-the-art models and solutions used by Amazon transportation worldwide. As part of your role, you will regularly interact with software engineering teams and business leadership. You will have the opportunity to work with some of the leading scientists in the areas of optimization algorithms, meta-heuristics, market analysis, and integer programming. Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world. We are searching a candidate with astrodynamics expertise in spaceflight operations and ground systems software development. This position requires experience in software development for astrodynamics applications and expertise in supporting mission workflow for satellite operations. Strong analysis skills are required support engineering studies of complex large-scale dynamical systems. The Kuiper Flight Dynamics System supports the mission operations for the Kuiper LEO Constellation. Working with the Kuiper engineering team, you will: • Implement high fidelity modeling techniques for analysis and simulation of large LEO constellations. • Own significant software development efforts to enhance the Kuiper Flight Dynamics System. • Architect automated workflow for flight dynamics tasks such as navigation and maneuver planning. • Support novel solutions to manage the risk posed by conjunction traffic in Low Earth Orbit. • Work closely with Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) engineers to manage on-orbit performance and develop flight dynamics operations process improvements. Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. A day in the life Spending part of the day with real spaceflight hardware and evaluating performance using diagnostic software. Likely investing time in development of tools to expedite tasks.
