- [Announcer] There's one more really powerful reason that you might want to use a platform like Shopify and that's because it's a hosted platform. There are two basic types of websites: hosted and self-hosted. Essentially, you're choosing between customization versus ease of use and stability: self-hosted platforms require maintenance but offer you more customization; hosted platforms have some restrictions but they're incredibly easy to maintain. On a technical level, a hosted platform is software that someone else runs for you. In this case, Shopify owns, maintains, and runs all of their servers. For self-hosted platforms, you have to host the website and do all the maintenance yourself.
