On this page, the deletion or merging of templates and modules, except as noted below, is discussed. To propose the renaming of a template or templates, use Wikipedia:Requested moves.

How to use this page[edit]

What not to propose for discussion here[edit]

The majority of deletion and merger proposals concerning pages in the template namespace and module namespace should be listed on this page. However, there are a few exceptions:

Stub templates
Stub templates and categories should be listed at Categories for discussion, as these templates are merely containers for their categories, unless the stub template does not come with a category and is being nominated by itself.
Userboxes
Userboxes should be listed at Miscellany for deletion, regardless of the namespace in which they reside.
Speedy deletion candidates
If the template clearly satisfies a criterion for speedy deletion, tag it with a speedy deletion template. For example, if you wrote the template and request its deletion, tag it with {{Db-author}}.
Policy or guideline templates
Templates that are associated with particular Wikipedia policies or guidelines, such as the speedy deletion templates, cannot be listed at TfD separately. They should be discussed on the talk page of the relevant guideline.
Template redirects
List at Redirects for discussion.

Reasons to delete a template[edit]

  1. The template violates some part of the template namespace guidelines, and can't be altered to be in compliance.
  2. The template is redundant to a better-designed template.
  3. The template is not used, either directly or by template substitution (the latter cannot be concluded from the absence of backlinks), and has no likelihood of being used.
  4. The template violates a policy such as Neutral point of view or Civility and it can't be fixed through normal editing.

Templates should not be nominated if the issue can be fixed by normal editing. Instead, you should edit the template to fix its problems. If the template is complex and you don't know how to fix it, WikiProject Templates may be able to help.

Templates for which none of these apply may be deleted by consensus here. If a template is being misused, consider clarifying its documentation to indicate the correct use, or informing those that misuse it, rather than nominating it for deletion. Initiate a discussion on the template talk page if the correct use itself is under debate.

Listing a template[edit]

To list a template for deletion or merging, follow this three-step process. The use of Twinkle (explained below) is strongly recommended, as it automates and simplifies these steps. Note that the "Template:" prefix should not be included anywhere when carrying out these steps (unless otherwise specified).

Step Instructions
I: Tag the template. Add one of the following codes to the top of the template page:

Note:

  • If the template nominated is inline, do not add a newline between the TfD notice and the code of the template.
  • If the template to be nominated for deletion is protected, make a request for the TfD tag to be added, by posting on the template's talk page and using the {{editprotected}} template to catch the attention of administrators or Template editors.
  • For templates designed to be substituted, add <noinclude>...</noinclude> around the TfD notice to prevent it from being substituted alongside the template.
  • Do not mark the edit as minor.
  • Use an edit summary like
Nominated for deletion; see [[Wikipedia:Templates for discussion#Template:name of template]]
    or
Nominated for merging; see [[Wikipedia:Templates for discussion#Template:name of template]].
  • Before saving your edit, preview your edit to ensure the Tfd message is displayed properly.

Multiple templates: If you are nominating multiple related templates, choose a meaningful title for the discussion (like "American films by decade templates"). Tag every template with {{subst:Tfd|heading=discussion title}} or {{subst:Tfm|name of other template|heading=discussion title}} instead of the versions given above, replacing discussion title with the title you chose (but still not changing the PAGENAME code).

Related categories: If including template-populated tracking categories in the TfD nomination, add {{Catfd|template name}} to the top of any categories that would be deleted as a result of the TfD, this time replacing template name with the name of the template being nominated. (If you instead chose a meaningful title for a multiple nomination, use {{Catfd|header=title of nomination}} instead.)

TemplateStyles pages: The above templates will not work on TemplateStyles pages. Instead, add a CSS comment to the top of the page:

/* This template is being discussed in accordance with Wikipedia's deletion policy. Help reach a consensus at its entry: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2023_March_30#Template:template_name.css */
II: List the template at TfD. Follow this link to edit today's TfD log.

Add this text to the top of the list:

  • For deletion: {{subst:Tfd2|template name|text=Why you think the template should be deleted. ~~~~}}
  • For merging: {{subst:Tfm2|template name|other template's name|text=Why you think the templates should be merged. ~~~~}}

If the template has had previous TfDs, you can add {{Oldtfdlist|previous TfD without brackets|result of previous TfD}} directly after the Tfd2/Catfd2 template.

Use an edit summary such as
Adding [[Template:template name]].

Multiple templates: If this is a deletion proposal involving multiple templates, use the following:

{{subst:Tfd2|template name 1|template name 2 ...|title=meaningful discussion title|text=Why you think the templates should be deleted. ~~~~}}

You can add up to 50 template names (separated by vertical bar characters | ). Make sure to include the same meaningful discussion title that you chose before in Step 1.

If this is a merger proposal involving more than two templates, use the following:

{{subst:Tfm2|template name 1|template name 2 ...|with=main template (optional)|title=meaningful discussion title|text=Why you think the templates should be merged. ~~~~}}

You can add up to 50 template names (separated by vertical bar characters | ), plus one more in |with=. |with= does not need to be used, but should be the template that you want the other templates to be merged into. Make sure to include the same meaningful discussion title that you chose before in Step 1.

Related categories: If this is a deletion proposal involving a template and a category populated solely by templates, add this code in the |text= field of the Tfd2 template but before the text of your rationale:

{{subst:Catfd2|category name}}
III: Notify users. Please notify the creator of the template nominated (as well as the creator of the target template, if proposing a merger). It is helpful to also notify the main contributors of the template that you are nominating. To find them, look in the page history or talk page of the template. Then, add one of the following:

to the talk pages of the template creator (and the creator of the other template for a merger) and the talk pages of the main contributors. It is also helpful to make any interested WikiProjects aware of the discussion. To do that, make sure the template's talk page is tagged with the banners of any relevant WikiProjects; please consider notifying any of them that do not use Article alerts.

Multiple templates: There is no template for notifying an editor about a multiple-template nomination: please write a personal message in these cases.

Consider adding any templates you nominate for TfD to your watchlist. This will help ensure that the TfD tag is not removed.

After nominating: Notify interested projects and editors[edit]

While it is sufficient to list a template for discussion at TfD (see above), nominators and others sometimes want to attract more attention from and participation by informed editors. All such efforts must comply with Wikipedia's guideline against biased canvassing.

To encourage participation by less experienced editors, please avoid Wikipedia-specific abbreviations in the messages you leave about the discussion, link to any relevant policies or guidelines, and link to the TfD discussion page itself. If you are recommending that a template be speedily deleted, please give the criterion that it meets.

Notifying related WikiProjects[edit]

WikiProjects are groups of editors that are interested in a particular subject or type of editing. If the article is within the scope of one or more WikiProjects, they may welcome a brief, neutral note on their project's talk page(s) about the TfD. You can use {{Tfdnotice}} for this.

Tagging the nominated template's talk page with a relevant Wikiproject's banner will result in the template being listed in that project's Article Alerts automatically, if they subscribe to the system. For instance, tagging a template with {{WikiProject Physics}} will list the discussion in Wikipedia:WikiProject Physics/Article alerts.

Notifying substantial contributors to the template[edit]

While not required, it is generally considered courteous to notify the good-faith creator and any main contributors of the template and its talkpage that you are nominating for discussion. To find the creator and main contributors, look in the page history or talk page.

At this point, you've done all you need to do as nominator. Sometime after seven days have passed, someone else will either close the discussion or, where needed, "relist" it for another seven days of discussion. (That "someone" may not be you, the nominator.)

Once you have submitted a template here, no further action is necessary on your part. If the nomination is successful it will be added to the Holding Cell until the change is implemented. There is no requirement for nominators to be part of the implementation process, but they are allowed to if they so wish.

Also, consider adding any templates you nominate to your watchlist. This will help ensure that your nomination tag is not mistakenly or deliberately removed.

Twinkle[edit]

Twinkle is a convenient tool that can perform many of the posting and notification functions automatically, with fewer errors and missed steps than manual editing. Twinkle does not notify WikiProjects, although many of them have automatic alerts. It is helpful to notify any interested WikiProjects that don't receive alerts, but this has to be done manually.

Discussion[edit]

Anyone can join the discussion, but please understand the deletion policy and explain your reasoning.

People will sometimes also recommend subst or subst and delete and similar. This means the template text should be "merged" into the articles that use it. Depending on the content, the template page may then be deleted; if preserving the edit history for attribution is desirable, it may be history-merged with the target article or moved to mainspace and redirected.

Templates are rarely orphaned—that is, removed from pages that transclude them—before the discussion is closed. A list of open discussions eligible for closure can be found at Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Old unclosed discussions.

Closing discussion[edit]

Administrators should read the closing instructions before closing a nomination. Note that WP:XFDcloser semi-automates this process and ensures all of the appropriate steps are taken.

March 29[edit]

Template:Open water swimming at the 2023 Pan American Games[edit]

No need for this separate template; will be included as part of the template "Swimming at the 2023 Pan American Games" (which doesn't exist yet, but will do so closer to the games). For ex. in 2019, was merged into one [1] Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 22:07, 29 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Template:Vb cl7 team[edit]

similar to prior discussions, this has now been replaced by Module:Sports table/Volleyball. Frietjes (talk) 19:46, 29 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Women's college basketball coach templates[edit]

A three-layered system of 30+ templates, all of which are used to create one list on one page (List of current NCAA Division I women's basketball coaches). The page, as it is, is unnecessarily difficult to edit, and the edit history is separated in 30+ different locations. This would be much better served with everything substituted and put into one place for (much) easier editing. fuzzy510 (talk) 08:18, 29 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Subst and delete this article content used in a single article. – Jonesey95 (talk) 12:10, 29 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • SUbst and delete I don't think the current set-up would be clear to an editor just wanting to edit this one page. The complexity offers no value. CRwikiCA talk 13:00, 29 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Everything is relative. It has been many years and I hope not to have to track it down unless it's necessary, but the list of coaches has been in existence for quite a few years. However in its earlier implementation it was very complicated. A new editor came along without a lot of Wikipedia expertise but had some coding skills and offered to improve the approach. This approach, while understandably cumbersome, is a marked improvement over the previous approach. I'm not opposed to further improvement but I'd like to see the improved version before eliminating this version. I have very modest coding skills and don't have the expertise to do the suggested improvement but if someone could mock it up, or simply create it, I'd be on board in favor of improvement. That said I'd be concerned about something that looks like an improvement but is actually more complicated. I do update many of these templates but I'm far from the only one, and can't possibly keep up with all of the changes going on. If the others involved are not comfortable with the replacement then it will be a step backwards.
It's also less than ideal timing unless the replacement is close to seamless. As a guesstimate, 90% of all changes in a year occur in a 30 to 60 day window we are in the middle of. If the proposed replacement is trivial to understand, then it would actually be beneficial to do it now, but if there's a chance of a glitch, or a learning curve, it would be better to do the replacement a month or two down the road when activity is light. S Philbrick(Talk) 13:52, 29 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Please check out a two year history of page views for evidence that this is the busiest time of year for edits. S Philbrick(Talk) 13:57, 29 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
(Yes, I realize I just conflated page views and edits but the general point is that this is the busiest time of the year for both, which is a positive if the proposed replacement is seamless but a major negative if there are problems) S Philbrick(Talk) 14:00, 29 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I just tried editing one of the templates to reflect the appointment of Jeff Cammon as head coach at St. Mary's. We didn't work. I've occasionally had a problem when I mangle one of the entries, but a not sure that's the case think it's objecting because of the notification. I tried editing a different template and simply adding a space, which should have worked but it ran into the same problem, which leads me to think that it has something to do with the notification. Can you help check this out to see if I'm missing something? S Philbrick(Talk) 21:59, 29 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Template:Blackpink solo[edit]

Template:Common Security and Defence Policy[edit]

This fails nearly all of the five guidelines listed at WP:NAVBOX. It's not a single coherent subject, the subject is not mentioned in all of these articles, they don't all refer to each other, and many would not be included in see also sections. (The last point is that a Wikipedia article exists about the main topic, which in this case is true.) Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 01:17, 29 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Delete or split Wow, that is one massive navbox, too big to be useful. CRwikiCA talk 13:02, 29 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Split I'd say split these into separate navbox pages. We already have the CSDP navbox on the main template page it was created for. The rest do serve navigational value. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 23:45, 29 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Template:NHK Broadcast History[edit]

It is not clear what is the purpose of this template when adding a simple link to the site seems enough. Not sure if the amount of archived entries on the site warrants its own template. Xexerss (talk) 00:43, 29 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Template:Josip Broz Tito[edit]

Redundant to {{Josip Broz Tito series}}. Vanjagenije (talk) 19:58, 28 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Keep Not redudant. There are a lot of world leaders who have both a series sidebar and navboxes. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 20:03, 28 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • keep, but delete the sidebar instead. footer navigational boxes are superior for navigation because the don't take away space for other right-floating content like images and infoboxes. Frietjes (talk) 22:12, 28 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Keep both: Sidebars and navboxes co-exist for many topics and series about people, and I don't think any guideline (i.e. WP:NAVBOX) discourages nor requires use of both simultaneously (where sidebar doesn't fit). –Vipz (talk) 15:50, 29 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

2012 Summer Paralympics wheelchair rugby templates[edit]

per the current convention for Olympics and Paralympics articles, the game and standings templates should be hosted in the parent article, and not in individual templates. if consensus changes over LST vs templates, we can always put all the matches and standings into a single template with a switch so we don't need to watch 25 templates per event. Frietjes (talk) 19:40, 28 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Desert Diamond Cup standings templates[edit]

I converted these to WP:LST per earlier WP:FOOTY discussion and transcluded the template calls from the group page instead. CRwikiCA talk 16:41, 28 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Template:Nick Jr co-productions[edit]

Obviously doesn't look like a standard navigational template, and it's problematic. Bossy Bear is a redirect to a bad article for something that is not Nick Jr. co-production, and Pinky Dinky Doo and Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! do not appear to be Nick Jr. co-productions at all. Reason for deletion? This is a test--not a successful one. Drmies (talk) 00:46, 28 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Template:American leaders, 1920s[edit]

This new template is not needed, it serves vague navigational function and duplicates the contents of other existing navboxes. Drdpw (talk) 22:36, 27 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Context from template OP I've been making stuff like {{Canadian premiers, 1920s}}, {{Canadian viceroys, 1920s}}, and {{Australian premiers, 1920s}}, and thought that this would be a good American analog. I might, for one, want to know who served as the Chief Justice in a certain era, but only know who served as the President, for example. Or more cogently, who served as President pro tem when so-and-so was Speaker. If it makes the template more cogent we could remove the whips (and even party leaders), but if consensus deems this irreparably doomed I won't strongly oppose deletion. – John M Wolfson (talk • contribs) 22:43, 27 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • CRwikiCA They save a click or two; I've often caught myself browsing premier articles and wondering who was the premier of X at the same time Y was the premier of Z. With the Canadian/Australian navboxes, I'm able to answer that directly without having to go to an article either by clicking or, heaven forbid, typing in the search bar. I can't say my use case is typical, but it is nonzero and I certainly think the Canadian/Australian premier and viceroy navboxes, with their well-defined criteria for inclusion and cohesiveness, fall if nothing else on the "harmless" side of "useless but harmless". (For the record, they in turn were inspired by car model timelines such as {{Ford United States & Canada timeline 1980 to present}} so they have very vague precedent.) While you could certainly add a lot more information (such as birth and death dates, appointing officials, etc.) in an article, there's nothing that precludes doing so alongside the navboxes; indeed, if the standard for navbox inclusion were "this information couldn't be included in an article", we'd have hardly any navboxes at all.
This is all just for the Canadian/Australian templates, mind you. The specific template up for discussion has more nebulous inclusion criteria and could thus be considered cruftier. – John M Wolfson (talk • contribs) 15:47, 28 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
That is a good point, John M Wolfson, about these navboxes in general. The TfD is for the American template in particular and the main point Drdpw makes is that it is basically a duplicate of existing navboxes. Having 50 states will make it impossible to duplicate the CAN or AUS versions with governors. What are the inclusion criteria? A lot of the people in this navbox already have multiple other navboxes as well, so if there is a lot of duplication that would negate the benefit of this specific one. CRwikiCA talk 16:27, 28 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Delete per nomination. We don't need a navbox with a timeline format for any world leader for any decade in either country. General navboxes are doing the job just fine. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 00:49, 29 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

And honestly, I hate the kind of consensus that thinks that naviboxes should be deleted, especially if it's useful. I won't mind adding more down the road like companies and stuff that was linked to the company such as this is a new company, but I rather see something new to expand upon instead of forcing this navibox to be thrown in the trash, and force me or anyone to redo it from scratch. 20chances (talk) 00:11, 26 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Was used one time, which I moved to the main article, also has a few redirects and a 1-item category. (N.B. should redirects be included in these listings, or are they taken care of automatically?) CRwikiCA talk 20:12, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

CRwikiCA, you don't need to include the redirects, they are automatically deleted per WP:CSD#G8 if the templates are deleted. Frietjes (talk) 21:26, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Template:2018 Kazakhstan Premier League table[edit]

Fixed section transclusion in article and updated the link to the template which duplicated the article. The 2 categories will be empty after. CRwikiCA talk 19:55, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Template:2017–18 Egyptian Premier League table[edit]

Embedded this in the text per prior WT:FOOTY discussion, main contributor seems semi-retired. The 2 categories will be empty after. CRwikiCA talk 19:37, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Template:Surf's Up series[edit]

Only three articles, no need for a navigational box. ★Trekker (talk) 17:37, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

College softball class-/position-specific award navboxes[edit]

Primary reasons are that these violate WP:CRUFT, WP:CREEP, and WP:NENAN. In NCAA Division I sports, Player of the Year and Coach of the Year are the only awards at the conference level that are major enough to warrant navboxes. There is now also a precedent for this type of discussion, with the unanimous outcome being delete (see Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2023 March 16#Template:Big Ten Conference Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Year navbox). 2012 Summer Paralympics goalball templates[edit]

per the current convention for Olympics and Paralympics articles, the game and standings templates should be hosted in the parent article, and not in individual templates. if consensus changes over LST vs templates, we can always put all the matches and standings into a single template with a switch so we don't need to watch 35 templates per event. Frietjes (talk) 16:24, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Note This makes Template:2012 Summer Paralympics goalball convenience template navbox redundant too and that should be added to this entry. CRwikiCA talk 18:20, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Template:2018 Winter Olympics convenience template navbox navbox[edit]

With the Winter Olympics curling convenience template deleted, this navbox doesn't serve much purpose. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 03:03, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Template:Mo Farah[edit]

Only one link outside the title link directly related to the subject. Just the rest are general links to records and sporting events. WikiCleanerMan (talk) 17:48, 23 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Delete, not a useful navigation template. This is used on one article, Mo Farah which already includes a listing of his medals and a series of navboxes for the various events he competed in. 192.76.8.84 (talk) 18:14, 23 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Delete, seems to duplicate other navboxes on that page CRwikiCA talk 18:22, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Delete per nom. Jay D. Easy (t) 20:55, 26 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Template:United States nuke plant map[edit]

Unused map. WikiCleanerMan (talk) 17:58, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

It's not unused? --Trialpears (talk) 21:21, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It was just added today. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 23:13, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I often wonder if people creating these maps also look at them. How is anything on the eastern side even readable? Gonnym (talk) 18:21, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I think this template would be much more usable if it was based around kartographer rather than location maps, at least that way you would be able to zoom in to see individual locations. 192.76.8.84 (talk) 18:10, 23 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Outdated future episode editnotices[edit]

The Template:Future episodes editnotice reminds users about strict sourcing requirements for future episodes of currently airing TV series and seasons. Except for List of Doctor Who episodes (2005–present), all of the articles with this editnotice are for TV series and episodes which have concluded airing. Tagging these editnotice instances will require template editor intervention. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 01:25, 23 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Template:Roger Ebert's Best Film of the Year[edit]

This is not an award navbox instead it's a listing of the noted critic Roger Ebert list of best films for each year from 1967 to 2012. The same list is on his article. I've added the best film of the decade to Ebert's article. WikiCleanerMan (talk) 00:10, 23 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Template:Qualifier

[edit]

A 2012 era Wiktionary template copied to wikipedia which is essentially unused, has no useful functionality on this project and which doesn't work properly. This template takes arbitrary parameters and returns them as a comma separated list wrapped in brackets, with each comma, bracket and term wrapped in span tags adding a css class. On Wiktionary the sitewide common.css page contains css rules to style these terms as part of the dictionary, those rules do not exist here so the template does nothing. This is used in one article to create the text "(colloquial)" twice, two talk pages containing content copied from wiktionary, and an essay about how wikipedia should invent it's own set of pronouns for editors. I don't see why we would need templates designed for a dictionary project that don't do anything useful, so I propose removal of the half dozen uses and deletion. 192.76.8.84 (talk) 18:55, 22 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Template:PD-VenezuelaGov

[edit]

Same as on Commons. Industrial property protects coats of arms and symbols of Venezuela from being registered by people as trademarks. That does not mean they are in the public domain. The intellectual property law of Venezuela makes some provisions for works that could be in the public domain, but makes no express mention of the coats of arms and symbols. These need to comply one of the conditions of the same law to be in the public domain. Files using this template should be reviewed. Bedivere (talk) 15:15, 4 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • We could just sync the content of the template with the one on Commons? Then nominate any non-conforming files. Magog the Ogre (tc) 18:50, 12 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Will do as soon as I can. right now I'm on the phone. But if you can find it first, it's the deletion discussion of the template for Honduran coats of arms that were incorrectly tagged as public domain. Bedivere (talk) 21:01, 12 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Bedivere, Felix QW, and Magog the Ogre: Any updates on this? It would be great to close this discussion! Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 14:57, 18 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'm sorry, I have not been able to get into a computer lately. Just want to point out that the legislation cited in the template is invalid as it makes no mention of coat of arms and symbols of Venezuela. They might be public domain under one or more of the conditions one work may fall in the public domain, due to their expiration. The template, as it reads, incorrectly suggests the symbols are public domain as per the law itself but that is plain incorrect and unless their public-domain-cy can be determined otherwise, they should all be deleted. On the other hand, the Venezuelan industrial property law does mention coats of arms and symbols but only to establish these can't be trademarked, which is a different area to copyright protection. Bedivere (talk) 20:36, 18 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
There seems to be quite a sweeping public domain clause in Venezuelan labour law, cited on the Commons template as

Intellectual products generated under an employment relationship in the public sector—or financed through public funds—that generates intellectual property rights, will be considered to be in the public domain, while maintaining the authors' rights to public recognition.

If this is accepted as referring to copyright, then it would certainly justify a PD-VenzuelaGov template. The remainder of the Commons template text, after

The texts of laws, decrees, official regulations, public treaties, judicial decisions and other official acts shall not be protected by this Law.

, seems to belong more properly to a PD-Venezuela template than to a government one. Felix QW (talk) 14:30, 19 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I understand your point but that is a dubious approach. We would be assuming all of the coats of arms, symbols, etc., were intelectually created by public employees, which may be true in most cases but it should motivate a case-by-case review. Bedivere (talk) 00:54, 22 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • update to match text of the commons template and check all transclusions for correctness. looks like a valid template on commons, so I don't see why it can't be used here. Frietjes (talk) 17:10, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
