DHS has a new resource for stakeholders to understand how the Medicaid program operates in Iowa. The 2021 Iowa Medicaid Reference Guide provides an overview of both the state's Medicaid program as well as the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), including program eligibility, covered services, state oversight, budget development, and the governing framework of the programs. DHS plans to update the guide annually before each legislative session. The guide is available here.
Iowa Medicaid has three main coverage groups: Most Iowa Medicaid members are enrolled in the IA Health Link managed care program. This program gives you health coverage through a Managed Care Organization (MCO) that you get to choose. Some Medicaid members will get health coverage through the Medicaid Fee-for-Service program. CHIP is offered through the Healthy and Well Kids in Iowa program, also known as Hawki.
IMPORTANT HEALTH COVERAGE TAX DOCUMENTS -Member 1095-B Forms |
---|
For tax year 2022, a 1095-B form will no longer be issued to individuals unless a copy is requested. When the ACA was implemented in 2014, there were individual shared responsibility payments that taxpayers were liable for if they were not covered by minimum essential health coverage. The 1095-B tax form was used to report certain information to the IRS and to taxpayers about their minimum essential coverage for the year. Starting with tax year 2019, these penalties or responsibility payments are no longer being imposed, which means the 1095-B tax form is not essential in order for persons to correctly complete their tax returns. For this reason, a 1095-B tax form for tax year 2022 will no longer be issued to individuals by the Department of Health and Human Services unless a copy is specifically requested. Responsible individuals may receive a copy of their 1095-B tax form upon request. A copy of the form can be requested in the following ways:
Please include the following information in your request:
Once you have requested a copy of your 1095-B tax form, one will be provided within 30 days of the request at the mailing address that is provided by you in the request.
