This page hosts local (i.e., Meta-Wiki) requests for page deletion. For requests for speedy deletion from global sysops or stewards, see Steward requests/Miscellaneous. Any language may be used on this page. Before commenting on this page, please read the deletion policy, in particular the criteria for speedy deletion, and the inclusion policy. Please place the template {{RFD}} on the page you are proposing for deletion, and then add an entry in an appropriate section below. As a courtesy, you may wish to inform the principal authors of the page about the request. After at least one week, an administrator will close and carry out the consensus or majority decision.

Articles that qualify for speedy deletion should be tagged with {{delete}} or {{delete|reason}}, and should not be listed here. (See also speedy deletion candidates.) Files with no sources should be tagged with {{no source}} and need not be listed here, either. To request undeletion, see #Requests for undeletion. See Meta:Inclusion policy for a general list of what does not belong on the Meta-Wiki.

Previous requests are archived. Deletion requests ({{Deletion requests}}) can be added to talk page to remember previous RfDs.

Help:Table/example row template 2[edit]

Subpage no longer in use following soft redirection of Help:Table * Pppery * it has begun 21:53, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Help:Semi-protected cascading protection demo[edit]

Orphan page, the behavior this is documenting was fixed ages ago. (I would {{looks useless}} tag this, but I can't edit it). * Pppery * it has begun 23:13, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Delete per nom. I have unprotected the page in the meanwhile. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 00:34, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Delete cascading semi protection hasn't existed in 15+ years. 192.76.8.84 00:56, 22 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Help:Cascading protection demo[edit]

Orphan demonstration, not referenced by any existing help pages (I would {{looks useless}} tag this, but I can't edit it). * Pppery * it has begun 23:14, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Subpages of Help:Page existence[edit]

A series of unreferenced, context-free lists from 2007, apparently of pages that then exceeded the expensive parser function call limit. It's 2023 now, so these serve no purpose. * Pppery * it has begun 03:10, 18 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Help:Demo of function time[edit]

Demonstration does not appear to be referenced anywhere. Meta is not a repository for random code samples, and its entire Help namespace is practically deprecated in favor of MediaWiki.org (in addition to being cluttered with junk I'm slowly cleaning out). * Pppery * it has begun 03:16, 18 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Delete. Complete mess of a demonstration, the page is a template which transcludes itself which makes it unnecessarily difficult to understand as a help page. mw:Help:Extension:ParserFunctions##time does a much better job of documenting this and has been updated in the last decade. 192.76.8.84 00:50, 22 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Demo help pages[edit]

This is a walled garden of help pages, none of which are referenced from any standalone page. Meta is not a repository for random code samples, and its entire Help namespace is practically deprecated in favor of MediaWiki.org (in addition to being cluttered with junk I'm slowly cleaning out). Some of these are fully-protected so haven't been tagged. * Pppery * it has begun 03:23, 18 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Delete all most of these seem to have been test pages created as sandboxes, used for messing around then protected when admins got fed up with reverting the messes on them. As pppery points out none of these are mentioned in the help pages anymore, so they serve no useful purpose. 192.76.8.84 00:45, 22 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Help:Running MediaWiki on FreeBSD/fr[edit]

Ancient and useless. While mw:Manual:Running MediaWiki on FreeBSD is not a translatabe page, following instructions from 2006 for installing software is almost certainly not going to work. * Pppery * it has begun 14:56, 18 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Delete, hopelessly outdated, an updated page would belong on mediawiki. 192.76.8.84 00:35, 22 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Help:Mod[edit]

Orphan help page. Meta is not a mathematical calculator. * Pppery * it has begun 21:02, 19 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Maybe Redirect to Help:Mod, round, floor, ceil, trunc? If that page gets deleted too then this can be deleted as a broken redirect, agree the page is useless as it stands. 192.76.8.84 00:34, 22 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Fine with that. I'm personally not convinced of the usefulness of the target page either, but can't really jusify doing anything other than adding it to the big pile at User:Pppery/help#No MediaWiki.org equivalent for someone braver than me to tackle if they feel inclined. * Pppery * it has begun 01:36, 22 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Pppery I agree that the redirect target is not that useful, that's why I brought up it being deleted too. Most of that page's contents is just lists of poorly explained, questionably useful examples. e.g. about 2/3rds of the page is a list of examples using numbers up to 64 bits long to show that 32 bit errors don't exist anymore, that whole list is just unnecessary and could be nuked. IMO the best result here would be that anything useful from these pages is added to the relevant section at Help:Calculation. 192.76.8.84 19:12, 22 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Manual of Style[edit]

Ancient with very little useful content. Was previously kept at RfD in 2007, but has only become even more forgotten about since. * Pppery * it has begun 02:50, 22 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Delete, not a useful page. The idea of a cross project manual of style is not feasible, there are such a variety of different types of projects in so many languages that it would be inappropriate to try to force uniformity. You cannot write a travel guide, an encyclopaedia, a dictionary, a media repository, a database and a news site using the same set of guidelines, what is required in one project would be inappropriate in another. Most of the contents of this page are not a manual of style anyway, it's just some very basic and not particularly well explained examples of wikmarkup. 192.76.8.84 19:17, 22 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Template messages[edit]

Very outdated with very little useful content. This sort of thing is much better done on the projects themselves, and this old amalgamation attempt merely gets in the way and requires more effort to maintain (if anyone ever does). * Pppery * it has begun 02:54, 22 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Delete. This is just an unattributed copy of W:Wikipedia:Template index, specifically it's this version [1] of the page from 2008. I don't see a good reason for meta to host 15 year old copies of English Wikipedia pages. The contents of this page are simply not useful, it is not reasonable to assume that everyone using mediawiki (or even everyone within the wmf cluster of sites) is going to be looking to structure their project's templates around English wikipedia specific processes, policies and guidelines. 192.76.8.84 19:26, 22 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Template:Info[edit]

Quasi-identical to Template:Notice. I suggest merging {{info}} → {{notice}} and either redirect info to notice or delete info afterwards. Thank you, —MarcoAurelio (talk) 11:31, 8 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Merge into Template:Notice. The visible differences (User:MarcoAurelio/Sandbox 5) are close to none (info icon being a bit larger in Notice or Mbox than in Info, but we can expand Template:Notice code to allow customisation if needed. No reason to keep two identical templates around. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 11:40, 8 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Template:Extension[edit]

Was blanked by Izno. As a general rule we should not keep blank templates, but delete them if they are no longer useful. The remaining uses in userspace can either be ignored (since Special:WantedTemplates is huge already) or removed. * Pppery * it has begun 21:26, 14 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Template:Ezhommoù treiñ[edit]

Unused. No longer required and of no historical relevance. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 23:17, 15 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Template:Elections translation[edit]

Unused template from 2005. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 15:23, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Template:Ph:ĀāĆćĎďĒēĜĝĤĥĨĩĴĵĹĺŃń and PAGENAMEE[edit]

I don't think we need a template to call a template to make an edit link? Seems used on a single page as well so the need of a template doesn't seem justified. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 15:32, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Template:Ed[edit]

Template:Ed & doc - Unused, similar to {{edi}} and now a built-in MW feature via Special:EditPage. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 13:00, 22 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Categories[edit]

Category:News 2002 and all “News YYYY”[edit]

Categories “News YYYY” (from Category:News 2002 to Category:News 2022) in Category:News look pretty useless. Years categories (e.g. Category:2002) are sufficient, according to me. I ping Verdy p, their author. --Pols12 (talk) 14:04, 2 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

They were categorizing by year, like all other years in the series. Note that there should be other members for each related year. This was done for some years, but the simple Category:2002 for example would contain things not related to (Wikimedia) news but also for other things or events. Many of these categories have multiple pages. But they may also be grouped in "News by year", to avoid overpopulating "Category:News". Over time, the number of pages has increased, and there are subtopic in "Category:News" that are also dated and could have also their members sorted by year. There's been an old project to trace the history of Wikiemdia and make it summarizable and easily searchable. verdy_p (talk) 21:03, 2 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
