My IP on Meta Wiki and Wikipedia (Chinese) is blocked, how to unblock it
Project:Village Pump
Do you use a open proxy? Please see zh:WP:IPBEMAIL and m:WM:IPBE.
Yes, I am a Chinese mainland user and I use a proxy server.
I am writing to request the promotion of the WikiShootMe.js user script as a Gadget on Wikipedia. The WikiShootMe.js user script is a useful tool that allows users to quickly access the Wikishoot tool page, which displays Wikidata items, Wikipedia articles, and Commons images with coordinates on the same map, won the Coolest Tool Award in 2021.
The user script takes latitude and longitude coordinates from a Wikipedia page and redirects the user to the Wikishoot tool page. This can be very useful for editors who need to quickly locate images and other media related to a particular location.
The WikiShootMe.js user script has been developed and tested by myself and other users, and we believe it meets the criteria for promotion as a Gadget on Wikipedia. I have provided a link to the script below, along with an installation guide for interested users:
Script link: User:Gopavasanth/UserScripts/WikiShootMe.js
Installation guide: User:Gopavasanth/UserScripts
More about the tool: WikiShootMe on Meta-Wiki.
Thank you for your consideration. Please let me know if you have any questions or need further information.
Sincerely,
Gopavasanth
What does this have to do with MediaWiki.org? Cross-wiki gadgets aren't a thing.
Hi @Pppery, updated the above links to wikipedia.org. please verify and provide your thoughts. Thanks for the catch!
That didn't answer my question. This is the village pump for issues affecting MediaWiki.org. The script you wrote AFAIK has no relevance to the scope of MediaWiki.org, so why did you post this here rather than on Wikipedia?
Oh, Thanks for clarifying. I apologize for any confusion. I've posted on the appropriate page, the Wikipedia Village Pump, at the following link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Village_pump_(proposals)#Promote_WikiShootMe.js_user_script_as_Gadget. Please feel free to share your thoughts on the matter there.
Hello,
A global policy regarding the removal of advanced permissions (i.e. administrator, bureaucrat, interface administrator, etc.) from inactive users was adopted by community consensus in 2013. For this policy, inactivity is defined as having zero (0) edits and zero (0) administrative actions on the wiki for the last two years.
According to this policy, the stewards will review the activity of users with advanced permissions on public wikis without a local inactivity policy. This wiki opted-in per consensus in August 2020.
To the best of our knowledge, the following users with advanced permissions are inactive (data as of January 1st, 2023):
- Ainz Ooal Gown
- last edit: 2020-07-29
- last logged action: 2020-07-30

The users listed above will receive shortly a notification on their local talk pages, asking them to respond here if they wish to keep all or some of the advanced permissions they hold. If the users do not respond by 2023-03-26, their advanced permissions will be removed by the stewards without further notice.
The following users, although inactive per policy, have been excluded from the list as they are current WMF employees and may be in need of advanced permissions. Please check with them if they still need them or if they shall be transfered to their work accounts instead:
- Brion VIBBER
- Guillom
- Varnent
As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. You may also post a message in the stewards' noticeboard.
Yours sincerely.

The Wikimedia Foundation tests the switch between its first and secondary data centers. This will make sure that Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia wikis can stay online even after a disaster. To make sure everything is working, the Wikimedia Technology department needs to do a planned test. This test will show if they can reliably switch from one data centre to the other. It requires many teams to prepare for the test and to be available to fix any unexpected problems.
All traffic will switch on 1 March. The test will start at 14:00 UTC.
Unfortunately, because of some limitations in MediaWiki, all editing must stop while the switch is made. We apologize for this disruption, and we are working to minimize it in the future.
You will be able to read, but not edit, all wikis for a short period of time.
- You will not be able to edit for up to an hour on Wednesday 1 March 2023.
- If you try to edit or save during these times, you will see an error message. We hope that no edits will be lost during these minutes, but we can't guarantee it. If you see the error message, then please wait until everything is back to normal. Then you should be able to save your edit. But, we recommend that you make a copy of your changes first, just in case.
Other effects:
- Background jobs will be slower and some may be dropped. Red links might not be updated as quickly as normal. If you create an article that is already linked somewhere else, the link will stay red longer than usual. Some long-running scripts will have to be stopped.
- We expect the code deployments to happen as any other week. However, some case-by-case code freezes could punctually happen if the operation require them afterwards.
- GitLab will be unavailable for about 90 minutes.

hi there! i wanted to add a quick explanation to Extension:GoogleDocs4MW on the "google docs key," as answered on the discussion page, but i can't publish bc software is detecting an external link and i'm an ip address. could someone with correct perms drop it on there?
The Google Docs' key is the ID, encoded in the URL. For example, <code><nowiki>https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/3ckYOu8kuIfBzbu-Dtu9XwGHUnUJG32PK7wHe5xMv3VG/edit#gid=0</nowiki></code> has ID <code>3ckYOu8kuIfBzbu-Dtu9XwGHUnUJG32PK7wHe5xMv3VG</code>
Done
tyvm! hopefully that spares others from my confusion
I want to apply for the permission of "translation administrator", but I don't know what to write on the application page.
The why you want to apply for the usergroup would be a start.
Is there a template for applying for permission?
Excuse me, how long will it take for my application to be completed?
There is no time frame, requests will be granted or rejected based on comments on the request from users of the wiki.
Are there any requirements for the application administrator? Do I meet the requirements now? How do I apply for an administrator?
To apply for rights, see Project:Requests
There are no specific requirements, but it is very unlikely you would be succesful given you've been active on this wiki for less than a month. Its generally expected admins have a longer history of contributions to build up trust.
我的时区应该是UTC+8,但是MediaWiki服务器系统设置的是UTC+0 My time zone should be UTC+8, but the MediaWiki server system is set to UTC+0
You can adjust timezone in Special:Preferences.
However, in many places we display times in UTC for everyone, to prevent confusion when collaborating with people across time zones.
I want to update my MediaWiki server to Alpha so I can use the VisualEditor plugin. How can I do this with the update.php script?
Please ask questions in Project:Support_desk
