This book was such an important read for our family. Using donor sperm from a known donor can be really stigmatized in our community. this book helped solidified our feelings on moving forward with a known donor.
If you’re even slightly considering using a known donor definitely read this book. It’s a little outdated so ignore anything that has to do with legality stuff and speak to your lawyer directly.
Using a known donor is not scary. For our family we are not only growing by two tiny feet, but by two large ones too! 🖤

I was searching for a book that would provide some insight into non-traditional queer families. This book was a tender and personal account. It provided some first-person storytelling about "this is how it went for us". Though some of the stories have a certain "cautionary tale" quality about them, they remain deeply personal. It wasn't exactly what I was searching for, in terms of information, but still satisfying. I'm considering starting a non-traditional queer family and needed some guidance. Though this is not along the lines of "How to Remodel Your Bathroom" (a metaphor taken from one of the first essays! Very sweet!), it is helpful in that I could hear other's stories from near and far in a thoughtful and reflective manner. Thank you for publishing!!

This book does a great job of presenting a wide range of stories -- some where things have worked very well, and some where there were some real struggles between the adults involved. I have recommended this book to friends and colleagues quite a few times, and wish it was easier to find.

Much needed and beautiful book

I don't know of any other book out there on this particular topic, and as a pregnant single lesbian with a known donor (good friend), this book is such a gift. It contains a great range of stories from very diverse perspectives (lesbian couples, single women, a gay male couple using a surrogate, etc), all thoughtful and well written. As a woman, I especially appreciate that many of the authors included are the donors themselves. These are mostly happy stories, which is a nice change from a lot of what you read in other books about being wary of known donors because they can turn on you and demand custody. There are one or two very well-written essays about that happening, but they are not horror stories, they are about families sticking together.

Much needed book! I would recommend it to anyone using or thinking of using a known donor, or anyone who has friends or family doing this who'd like to get some insight.
