Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Therapy
Meeting patients where they’re at, offering in-person or telehealth services.
As part of PrairieCare’s full continuum of care, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a unique service offered at our Edina and Woodbury locations. This treatment is geared towards individuals experiencing Major Depressive Disorder and other complex neuropsychiatric disorders.
What Is Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Therapy?
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is an evidence-based, non-invasive procedure used to treat individuals experiencing treatment-resistant depression. TMS is a unique and innovative treatment option for patients who have tried other forms of treatment, such as traditional talk therapy or medication, and have not seen progress.
How TMS Works
For patients who qualify for TMS Therapy, treatment typically consists of 36-37 sessions over 8-12 weeks, as the TMS treatment team recommends.
Treatments typically last around twenty minutes, making it easy and convenient for patients to fit treatment into their busy schedules. The non-invasive procedure uses a Brainsway helmet with magnetic pulses to increase activity in the brain’s prefrontal cortex with the goal of total remission from depressive symptoms.
Not only has TMS been found to be highly effective in reducing these symptoms, but it is also a cost-effective option for patients.
TMS Clinic Hours:
Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm
Does Insurance Cover Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Therapy?
TMS is covered by most major insurances.
Is TMS FDA approved?
TMS is FDA-approved for the treatment of the major depressive disorder.
What to Expect from the Results
Based on PrairieCare’s clinical results, at least 1 out of 2 patients have their depression symptoms decreased by at least 50%, and a significant number of patients achieve remission from depression.
These results are based on patients with severe depression who have tried multiple antidepressant medications and psychotherapy in the past.
