Internships
Stripe hosts undergraduate and graduate interns from around the globe. Our interns fully integrate, learn, and make meaningful connections with other Stripes. The large majority of our internships are available on the Engineering team, however we have hosted interns on Design, Data Science, Legal, and various business teams in the past.
Fix real problems, help real users
At Stripe, interns have the opportunity to work on projects that positively affect our business. Every intern has a dedicated mentor and gets to work on important technical challenges, like rebuilding our statistics aggregation service, migrating jobs to a cluster-based scheduler, or creating easy-to-understand error messages for Stripe Checkout. You will enjoy collaborative relationships, visibility into all parts of the business, and opportunities to do real, influential work. An internship at Stripe is a sneak peek of what it will be like working with us; it is 12 or 16 weeks actually spent working as a respected peer.
More than just a summer stint
Interns complete a tailored onboarding programme, which includes many elements of our robust new employee onboarding programme. Intern and new employee onboarding, known as Stripe 101, covers different areas of our business, such as our mission and culture, products, and opportunities for growth. As a company focused on infrastructure, we believe in providing a strong foundation. We try to arm you with enough knowledge and backup from colleagues to do real work, without overloading you with coursework.
Catalysts for connections
Intern demo days, speaker series, team-building events and community engagement are designed to give you as much experience and exposure as possible.
When do you hire interns?
Our 2021 internship programme will take place in the summer. The majority of our global interviews take place in line with local academic calendars, typically August–February. We recommend applying as early as possible.
Where are interns based?
We host interns in all of our hub offices: San Francisco, Seattle, Dublin and Singapore. As our programme continues to grow, some of our smaller offices are starting to host interns; these locations will be listed on our jobs page when our roles are live.
Do you hire Stripe interns after graduation?
A major purpose of the internship programme is to give you the opportunity to explore whether Stripe is a good fit for you to return full time with us after you graduate. Previous Stripe interns typically make up the majority of our new grad classes.
How are interns placed on teams?
For Engineering internships, team allocation happens close to your start date. We look at your background and preferences, factor in team bandwidth, and then assign you a team that will be the best fit for everyone involved.
Are interns provided with housing?
Yes, all interns are provided with corporate housing or suitable alternatives where possible.
How long are Stripe internships?
We offer 12- or 16-week internships.
Solve difficult, rewarding problems as a Stripe intern.
New graduates
New graduates, like all Stripes, are rigorous thinkers and inquisitive learners. We value and trust the fresh perspectives so many new graduates offer. Starting out at Stripe means that within weeks, you’ll be working on core products and operations. It also means you’ll have access to the support, mentorship and communities you need to be successful as you navigate your early career.
Some opinionated career advice
Stripe offers an interesting middle ground between joining a tiny startup and going to work for BigCo.
We have systems and processes optimised for early-career professionals. You will be in an environment that prizes rigour, discipline and reliability – from our products, from our ways of working, and from our colleagues. You will learn how the best teams put together extremely reliable systems, and you will be responsible for them, with adequate backup when things get tough.
We are still fine-tuning how we operate as a company, and we expect all Stripes to be creative, operate outside their job descriptions, and aim for targets that might seem a little too ambitious. You will quickly be able to point to something amazing and say, “I did that! That was me!”
Your career will probably last decades. We can provide you with an excellent foundation for it, building on what you’ve learned already, teaching you about enormously valuable problems (and how to work, generally), and giving you evidence that you’re objectively good at what you do.
There are few better vantage points in the world to learn about startups or the internet economy. We have a front-row seat to the happenings at the best companies in the world. You will have many opportunities for interacting directly with our users and can plausibly learn even more from them than us. Whether you continue working here or ultimately move on to other adventures, spending time at Stripe will undoubtedly help you grow your career aspirations.
Choosing a team
As a new grad, we want to ensure your first full-time role is enjoyable and productive. The team selection process takes place a few months before starting at Stripe. All new grads complete a survey to let us know their team preferences, and then we look at a number of criteria – background, your interests, business needs, team bandwidth to name a few – to determine the best possible match.
