Blizzard conditions are expected today through Dec. 25 in the Central and Eastern parts of the country. Traveling will be extremely dangerous, to at times impossible, due to whiteouts with near zero visibility and high winds. Alter travel plans and stay indoors, if possible.
What's a Blizzard? Blowing snow, 35+ mph winds, less than 1/4 mile visibility, for 3+ hours. Did you know that falling snow isn't necessary for a blizzard? A blizzard that results from previously fallen snow is called a ground blizzard.
