So proud and honored to have played a supporting role in this event about how Wikimedians fight disinfo about the Russian invasion of Ukraine at the European Parliament earlier this month.

Banning end to end encryption is impossible. Attempts to do so are idiotic. If you care about online safety then you need to embrace strong encryption. Anyone against strong encryption is against online safety. End of story.

Does anyone else get physically queasy seeing ad hoc and poorly thought through changes to platform speech policies? This one is intended to stop people from tracking billionaires’ airplanes—but would seem to also prohibit tweeting about going to a restaurant with a friend.

It's really not too late for policymakers to think about public funding for digital public spaces that can't just be bought by narcissistic Silicon Valley dudes.

Today this platform has banned @elonmusk critics and several major journalists who have reported it. @Twitter has also been accused of removing subjects from it's "trending" ranker, specifically concerning Ukraine. Screenshot this tweet just in case techcrunch.com/2022/12/15/twi

Talented Chinese netizens use this graphic (no idea who drew it though) to illustrate what the state gov has done in past three years to complicate pandemic control mechanism with rounds of empty talks but achieved zero result solving the real problems. Very telling.

The UK's Online Safety Bill, as drafted, is like a net trying to catch a bunch of harmful things that happen on the internet, but lots of dolphins will be caught in the net, Wikipedia being one such. In the meantime the net is not going to achieve the intended purpose. 👇👇👇

Astounding imagery. In my study of Chinese media, I don't recall public protests directly calling for press freedom in the past two decades. What is very intriguing about these protests is how single-issue focus on #covidlockdown quickly transpired into wider political issues.
