The Tories crashed the economy and are making working people pay the price. The average nurse is taking home over £5,000 less in real terms than in 2010. The government can resolve this by getting round the table with unions - it's time for fair pay for the public sector.

We need: ✔️ Universal, high-quality childcare for all from the point paid maternity/parental leave ends. ✔️ A new deal for the childcare workforce, with a new sectoral min wage. ✔️ A new social partnership forum in childcare bringing together unions, government + employers.

And staffing challenges in social care have worsened. Children’s homes are losing workers to retail or hospitality – and the number of foster carers has fallen to its lowest point in years. This means there sadly may not be enough places for children to live.

Nurseries are: Losing staff to higher paid or more flexible jobs. Closing because they can't recruit/retain high-quality workforce. Over-reliant on apprentices, damaging the quality of education and safeguarding.
