Support Neighbors Navigating Challenging Times

Capstone financial coach, Mary Johnson (left), recently supported Diana* through a complex point in her life. A single mom of two teenagers, without a car, and living in a motel due to a recent eviction, Diana was simultaneously fired from her job and diagnosed with cancer. Mary helped her enroll in Reach Up and improve her financial skills, and worked with Diana for a year in individual meetings and classes.

Fast forward to today, Diana has a new job, is paying down debt and starting to improve her credit score. Most importantly, she is excited to restart her life with greater stability and independence!  *Note: Name has been changed to protect privacy.

Together, we can make these stories of a community that cares a reality. Your donation empowers our neighbors to build security in the face of adversity.

Provide Food and Fuel for Your Neighbors

It’s no secret that increased costs and a challenging housing market are negatively impacting Vermonters right now. The current economic strains make it even more challenging for our low-income neighbors, especially seniors on fixed incomes, to afford basic necessities. Visits to Capstone's Food Shelf have increased by 40% since last spring and Capstone staff received 5,755 calls from July, 2021 to June, 2022 about heating assistance.

In the next year, thousands of Central Vermonters will visit Capstone for nutritious meals as well as support to keep their homes warm and safe. None of this work would be possible without the continued support of our dedicated donors.

Our 7th annual Fuel Your Neighbors campaign, powered by VSECU, starts on Giving Tuesday (November 29) to raise $300,000 in 100 days for our emergency food and heating assistance programs. Please help ensure no Vermonters have to choose between heating their home and feeding their families this winter.

Your gift made today will double its impact with a $1 for $1 match thanks to our generous community partners, VSECU and The Alchemist.

A Participant's Story

“I’ve worked with Sue Rossi at Capstone since the 90’s for fuel assistance. I need to keep warm and this program helps me do that. I’ve also had weatherization twice in my house. I just feel very honestly that this is a godsend and a blessing. ”
