PrairieCare recognizes the importance of education in the lives of our patients. Working with local school districts and creating age-appropriate, innovative curriculum, we support our patients academically during their stay at PrairieCare. We work to improve social and emotional learning and incorporate psychoeducation in their academics.

#Stigma180: Free Spring Webinars for Parents & Educators

PrairieCare has partnered with Eastern Carver County Schools to present a series of free spring webinars for parents and educators in April. Join PrairieCare’s Dr. Joshua Stein and Dr. Anna Bohlinger as they present on topics related to family strengths, resilience, ADHD diagnosis, and parenting during COVID-19. OASIS – Osseo Area Source of Information and Support

PrairieCare partners with the ISD 279 Social Work Department to facilitate OASIS – Osseo Area Source of Information and Support. This group meets monthly throughout the school year for a presentation on a mental health topic, and for resource sharing and support. This program is free and open to the public. The presentation is 1.5 hours, while OASIS is geared towards parents there is a certificate of attendance provided for any professionals seeking continuing education hours.

White Bear School District – Staff & Community Mental Health & Wellbeing 3 Part Series

White Bear Lake staff and families are invited to attend presentations sponsored by the district, in conjunction with district partners, that are focused on mental wellbeing throughout the school year. Information about each session will be available at the link below.

 

Two PrairieCare Clinicians, Jenna Kamholz and Kara Haugen, have offered their expertise and time.

– Jenna Kamholz is a Minnesota Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. Jenna is currently working at PrairieCare Partial Hospitalization Program in Maplewood, MN. Jenna’s clinical practice and certifications center around trauma and children’s mental health. Jenna is trained in trauma practices and values education and the understanding of how the brain is impacted by traumatic events. Jenna has worked in a variety of different settings including inpatient hospital, schools, and partial hospital programs. Jenna’s passions include working with children and understanding their world view, while helping families and teachers better understand how children are behaving.

-Kara Haugen is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) who has over 7 years of experience in the field working with children, adolescents, and families dealing with mental health concerns. Kara has worked in a variety of settings, including schools, hospitals, residential treatment centers, day treatment, and partial hospitalization. Kara has a passion for working with youth and families to identify strengths and how these can be utilized to promote the best functioning for each client. Kara has additional training in the areas of trauma, attachment, and youth who have been adopted or part of the foster care system.

  • 01/27/22: Trauma Presentation  (PrairieCare Presenter: Jenna Kamholz) 6:30pm-8:30pm

Trauma is a buzz word in society today, but what truly is trauma? This presentation will give you a better understanding on what trauma is and how it presents in our children today. We will dive into common symptoms and begin the process of understanding how the brain is impacted by trauma. This presentation will offer solutions that could help aid in the process of healing. Trauma is all around us, and this presentation will make those conversations easier and symptoms better to understand. Let’s start the conversation.

  • 02/24/22: Anxiety and School Refusal (PrairieCare Presenter: Kara Hugen) 6:30pm-7:30pm

During this presentation, there will be a discussion on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on children’s and teens’ experiences of anxiety and difficulties related to school attendance. The presenter will give a brief overview to attendees on anxiety and common signs and symptoms in children and adolescents as well as possible reasons for lack of attendance and school refusal. The presenter will then offer strategies that can be useful in working with anxious youth and ways to encourage and motivate school attendance and engagement based on strategies used with previous clients as they transitioned back to school.

PrairieCare Fund

The PrairieCare Fund is a non-profit grant making charity built on the mission to improve the health and well being of our communities, founded in 2016 by compassionate clinicians, community advocates and legislators.

PrairieCare Fund supports youth mental health and wellness programs throughout the state of Minnesota by offering grants to selected applicants. These generous grants help advocate, prevent, identify, and reduce the stigma of mental health through programs and education in schools and/or districts that are awarded these grants.

In 2022, the PrairieCare Fund surpassed a milestone, granting over $1,000,000 to 60+ schools and nonprofits across the state since 2017! To apply for a grant, visit the PrairieCare Fund grants page below.
